Full Version: ad-aware problem malicious software
Lavasoft Support Forums > Archived Topics > Archives: Resolved/Inactive Topics > Resolved/Inactive HijackThis Logs
datakop
As requested by ad-aware staff, I ran HighJackThis and am pasting the results in the hope that someone can help :

A pop-up message advises that ""ad-watch live detected that a malicious process is running and started scan in the background. You will be able to clean infections safely after scan is finished""

The scan runs and finds some Cookies which I delete and indicates that No Malicious software was found????

As suggested by Ad-Aware, I ran the scan in Safe Mode, but that did not find any malicious software either. Then I was advised to uninstall and re-instal the program, which I did, but still get this pop - up and so the scan keeps starting up -- but nothing malicious shows.

Hope that I have posted in the right place, if not please advise me what should be done.

Thanks

Duncan

Hi,

Thanks for the above. As requested I have uploaded the Uninstall list.

I hope that this will help, as the pop up message is appearing many many times and there seems to be no malicious process found.

Hi,

There seems to be p2p file sharing software (Limewire at least) installed. I strongly recommend you uninstall it.

Check here to see if your Flash is up-to-date (do it separately with each of your browsers). If not, uninstall vulnerable versions by following instructions here. Fresh version can be obtained here.

Kaspersky Online Scanner

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Read the requirements and privacy statement then click on the Accept button.
  • The program will launch and start to download the latest definition files.
  • You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
  • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    Archives
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • Click on Save Report As....
  • Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Save this report to a convenient place.
  • Copy and paste that information & fresh hjt log into your topic.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. As it scans your machine very deeply it could take hours to complete, Kaspersky suggests running it during a time of low activity.

Hi,

Thanks for all that information.

I did all steps except the Kaspersky Online Scanner, which I wil do overnight and post the results.

Unfortunately, after I restarted the computer and clicked on Internet Explorer the Pop up message appeared before I/E opened completely.

Again, many thanks for your input. Hopefully, we can eliminate this annoying pop-up.

Ok. Shall wait for the results.

Hi,

Here are the results of the Kaspersky Online Scan which indicated that were no problems. So, why does Ad-Aware keep telling me that there is a malicious program??.

Please advise what I now need to run in the HiJackThis Program.

By the way, the Malicious Program Pop-Up has not gone away.

Thanks

Duncan

So, why does Ad-Aware keep telling me that there is a malicious program??

This question I'm not the best person to answer to since I'm not specialized to Ad-Aware. Have you tried to disable your other protection software to see if it conflicts with Ad-Aware?

QUOTE
Please advise what I now need to run in the HiJackThis Program.

Do you mean fixing those entries I listed above? I thought you had fixed them already.
datakop
Once I ran Kaspersky and it found no problems, I thought that I would have to run HiJackThis again.

I have sent a note to Lavasoft asking them to view the postings on this problem and will try to Chat with them as well.

I have not disabled my security software which is from Rogers Cable, my ISP. Depending on the response I get from Lavasoft I may disconnect from the internet and disable Rogers Security which I believe uses a version of Norton Security for Anti Virus etc.

Again, my thanks for your participation.

I will let you know if I get help from Lavasoft.
