I just installed the free version and am unable to schedule a scan. The tab on the menu bar for Scheduler is grayed out. Can those with the free edition not schedule scans? If there is another way to schedule a scan, please let me know! I'd really like to have scans done twice a week and don't want to have to remember to do it. When I click on the Scheduler, it won't open. However, I can open all other tabs (Statistics, etc).
Please help!
thanks

Hi,

Yes, unfortunately, the scheduler is not available in the free version - see the product comparison chart.

Thanks Casey, I appreciate the reply to my question. So I guess I just have to put a note on my calendar and remember to do it. :)

Planning Tuesday and Friday scans. Should I do full scans each time or only smart scans? (i'm new to this product)

Other questions,to anyone: I was also told that multiple adware/spyware software is advisable. What others do you guys recommend?

thanks,
michele

hi again,

It might be possible to set up a schedule through Windows - though I'm not sure about that. As for other products - yes, but be careful! Some products will conflict with each other (for example, Norton causes Ad-Aware to crash) so be prepared to try certain products out, see how they feel and see if they play nice smile.gif

Thanks again Casey.

As for the other products, and any recommendations, I usually follow Kim Komando's advice. I'm a big Komando fan and her advice hasn't steered wrong yet. She has a few other products listed, with AdAware being at the top. I would think the ones she recommended would, as you put it, "play nice together" smile.gif
Thanks for being so responsive.

How often and what type of scans I think should depend on your internet usage. I smart scan with each new definition release (daily M-F) and full scan once/month. This is because I don't download a lot of files like P2P sharing and mainly browse safe message boards like this one. I also have preventative measures in place like configuring my browsers to reject cookies, downloads, etc.

As for how many security programs to use, I think it's best to keep only 1 running for real-time protection - the one with the broadest protection and frequent updates. A lot of programs' real-time protection serve the same function, so by turning off all but 1, my system is much more responsive. If you're using Ad-aware Free, you may want to turn it off and use something with registry protection and IP blocking.
