I think I may have aquired a boot sector virus through either email or a new game patch I just installed. It seems to have some very stealthy features against any sort of detection. Whenever I run a scan, be it with lavasoft or any form of anti-spyware application, it is not detected. Even formatting my drive did not solve the problem. It slowly multiplies and my windows folder is getting bigger and bigger all the time, but it seems like I cannot even see some of the growth in hard drive use or account for it. When I run scans, sometimes the disk gets slightly more lost space back at some points, and wavers at others, despite the fact that it is never detected. I think it's trying to hide itself. It is slowly eating away my hard disk space even as I type, and I am not sure what the proper way of going about it's removal would be. I have read that if it cannot be fixed normally, it can be fixed with a low-level formatting of my hard drive and a flashing of my BIOS, since it may reside there. But before taking such extreme measures, I want to ask if there are any other ways it could be removed. I'm willing to wipe my hard drive, anything, to get rid of this. At the rate it's moving at, I will have to reinstall my copy of Vista and format my hard drive about once a day to keep space on the drive. I'm taking college courses and so time is of the essence; is there any lavasoft product that may be able to remove this (I have tried the free version, although I know it doesn't cover viruses)? And is there any other way I may be able to remove this? Thank you all for your time and patience in reading and considering my request.
