I Have installed Adaware Anniversary Edition on a windows vista box (32 bit). The icon shows up in the system tray by the clock. When I try to open it from the the system tray, nothing happens however I can open it by clicking the icon on my desktop. Also when I try to update I get a UAC prompt but it is minimized to the task bar. It is only a minor annoyance since the the program works fine otherwise. I just want to know if there is a workaround for this issue. Thanks in advance

That's quite strange. I've not heard of this before. What other security software do you have installed?

The UAC prompt itself is by design - as Microsoft recommend only admin users be able to affect system wide settings. Personally, I think any user should be able to install important Windows and security software updates - but hey ho. With regards to it opening on the task bar, I have been told by Lavasoft that they cannot change this as this is due to Windows.

Casey,

I'm not so sure that's the reason. If that's the case, why would Windows open a box in the main area of the screen for all other programs that I know? Ad-Aware is the only program that opens the admin authorization box in the task bar. Why would it then be different, at all, with all other programs?

I do think (once again biggrin.gif ) that this may be an issue on Lavasoft's side, arguably by its programmers' choice.

It's a non-issue, I concur, but it doesn't seem to make much sense assigning it to Windows.

Regards.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not a fan...but ok. I don't know if this can be solved by you guys but... the UAC prompt always sits in the taskbar it never automatically asks me.

What I mean by this is, normally when I am required to confirm the confirmation box pops up in fron t of everything else and the screen goes black. With LS update the prompt sits in the taskbar and I have to manually click it to bring it up.

I know the UAC prompt is buggy in Vista, i.e. it sometimes appears wherever it likes on the screen, but normally it does appear.

... this is a bug within UAC unfortunately.

Thanks for the clarification. No doubt ever crossed my mind about your statement being truthful. And coming from Lavasoft sources, it should also be accurate and reliable. And it may very well be. The only thing is, for lay-people like myself, it does not make much sense, and I hope you agree with me on this one.

As much as I can tell, there is no other known program that presents the same behavior, so how can it be brushed aside by Lavasoft as a Windows bug? Why would this particular bug reveal itself only with Ad-Aware? Possible? Maybe, I don't know. Plausible? I don't think so.

But if my assumption is correct, I say it would be much better that Lavasoft came out more candidly and just said, "hey, it must be a bug on our code, but since it causes only minor inconvenience and no danger at all, we will look at it in due course"...

Let's keep it in perspective. As it has been said before, this is a non-issue. The only unfortunate potential side effect would be if any negative reflection would end up hurting the credibility of whomever speaks for Lavasoft. This is the only risk, in my view.

In fact, this is a great company and a great program, and being allowed to use it for free is a great privilege that must be acknowledged and commended by everyone who benefits from it. I do.

Regards.
