Hi, here's my problem. I got home this evening and my PC had shut down. This occasionally happens where there has been an automatic Windows update and it does a restart. When my PC was rebooting AdAware kicks in as usual but while it was starting up it came up with an warning that something had or was trying to change my registry settings. Unsure of what to do I took the option to 'Block' this actions ...... but then a whole bunch of windows started to open with the same working but for different registry values and I then panicked and 'Blocked' them all.
I have a bunch of desktop icon wheich are either shortcuts to start program and folders I use regularly and any time I double clicked on them the did not open. Instead what ran was SpyBot doing a check on the file
I therefore rebooted but when I did, while it was in the 'Windows starting up screen' another window can up tha was blank but had and 'OK' button at the bottom. As this jsut sat there for 10 mins doing nothing I ended up pressing 'OK'. It then opened up my desktop and all my icond were there but there were no images and they had all be changed to say '.lnk' files. Again when I tried to double click to open these the only thing that happended was that SpyBot did a check on it. I then right clicked one of these files and ther was no 'Open' in the option and the top option, which I guess is the defauld option, was SpyBot.
When I look at the my list of programs in the Start:Programs menu all of my program items have not images and are marked as '.lnk' files. I cannot enter Safe Mode as F8 does not seem to work and I cannot try a System Restore as it shows as a '.lnk' file and will not open.
I guess I have screwed up with my actions on AdAware and then compounded this with reboots and 'OKs'.
Can anyone help ?
