Same problem as posting with similar title. Running Vista Home Premium, IE8, SpyBot Search and Destroy, Norton 360, v2.

Followed same path as original posting, ie uninstalled program, reinstalled it from download in Download Folder with same result. Uninstalled and reinstalled from CNET. In each case computer was rebooted after uninstall. As such, no scan logs available. Hangs around 3300 and scan can Not be stopped(icon in System Tray continues to animate). Left running in each case for considerable amount of time before attempting to stop scan. Exited program and then restarted from Desktop icon. Immediately went to scan mode but this time with no timer or scan progress displayed. Disabled Norton Firewall, Antivirus and put program into Silent Mode. Rebooted and attempted scan again after confirming Norton functions were disabled. Same result on starting Ad-Aware and clicking on Scan. Again freezes in the 3300 range.

This began, as I remember, six(6) days ago after installing latest Ad-Aware update.

Please advise. I do not have HiJack This installed.

Yeah I think we've got a compatibility issue with Norton at the moment. Other users are reporting this, but we've had no word from Lavasoft yet. Will keep you posted.

Thanks Casey for responding. Like HOTELLJACK, I found that disabling Norton Product Tamper Protection through Settings on Norton 360 is an interim fix for this compatibility problem. I disabled the function and ran a Smart and Full Scan back-to-back without problem. On disabling the tamper production I elected the fifteen(15) minute duration option. Even though Ad-Aware required nearly three(3) hours to complete a Full Scan, the scan continued to finish once begun.

I continue to apply both Norton and Lavasoft updates but to this date the issue has not been resolved to allow normal function.

Thanks again for your continued help.

Dave,

Thanks for the information! I turned off Norton Anti Tamper Protection and AE did a quick scan in 3 minutes! Now doing the full system scan...am SO glad I read this forum. Have been a big Ad-aware fan for years!

So that was the reason why scanning was such a pain. It was norton all along.
Thanks for the info guys.
Cheers!

I guess the problem is that this isn't a fix Lavasoft can do - it's kind of Norton's problem (even though it affects Ad-Aware) since it is Norton which is preventing the other software from running (note: it's not just Ad-Aware that's affected by this).

Of course, Norton don't really care about helping out Lavasoft (or so I'd imagine) except to stop their own customers leaving them because they choose Lavasoft over them.

I have aired my opions about what Lavasoft could about it in the mean time as a temporary solution but I didn't get a response from Lavasoft about that.

Maybe you should write to Norton and tell them this? I guess the more users who complain to Norton might improve the chances of this being fixed quickly.
