I had Ad-Aware 2007 on my desktop but wanted to update it to AE, which I downloaded from website. However, once downloaded, tried to run it and got following message:

c:\programfiles\lavasoft\ad-aware\ad-aware.exe
The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.


I don't know what I've done wrong (I tried downloading it a total of 4 times to check I wasn't doing something wrong, but got same result each time.)

First, check the Application Event Viewer to get the error details:

XP: go to Control Panel/Adminstrative Tools/Event Viewer/Application and a list of events shows in the right pane.

Having the error details will help while reading the post I linked above. Unfortunately, I don't think the original poster drchef reached a resolution - if he did, he didn't post it. Williamkidd solved the problem (post #16), but it may be irrelevant unless your system is similar.
