I have now ran a full scan and can confirm that it is working fine

From what I can tell it was Norton causing the problem. I am now running avast! and it seems perfectly happy working alongside Ad-Aware.
I'd advise any other Norton users to either disable Norton before scanning or just download a decent anti-virus program

It worked for me and my laptop is running alot smoother for it as well.
