Full Version: pc won't shut down

i have been using adaware 08 for a while with no problems. i upgraded to anniversary edition, scanned and when i finished went to shut down. after hitting shutdown my pc shut off as usual and then restarted by itself. itried again to shut down with the same result. i had to uninstall the ae and then it would shut down normally. i installed again and had the same restart problem. uninstalled and that's where i stand. any info would be great. running windows xp thanks jimmy

So installing AE resulted in a "Shut Down" turning into a "Reboot"?

Do you know if the scans detected any malware?

casey, thanks for the reply. only some cookies were found on the last scan. nothing serious on the last couple of tries. always the same result....an auto reboot till i uninstall. jimmy

You can turn off automatic restart upon system failure:

My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup & Recovery Settings > System Failure, unselect Automatically restart

I'm not sure what the Win XP default is for this setting, but mine was already off. I have not turned it on to see if I can replicate the problem, but I'm using Ad-aware AE v. 8.0.3 rather than the latest 8.0.7.

If your system is set to automatically restart, then the question is, what is causing the system failure? If you have "write an event to the system log" selected, you can check the Event Viewer under Control Panel Admin Tools. I imagine it may be that there has been a problem with Ad-aware not retaining the Last Scan Date - the cause is the Ad-aware service not shutting down properly. This has been identified and the fix should appear in the update due out next month.
