Full Version: Ad-Aware AE start up

Hi everyone. Has anyone got the same problem I have with Ad-Aware AE. I have the Plus version which I updated from Ad-Aware 2008 Plus. However everytime it starts I get the 'enter serial number' screen. I have entered my number so many times and it has told me that my number has been registered ok but then the next time it starts there is the register screen again. Ok I know I only have to click close to get rid of it, but surely it should not be shown every time. Also my old Ad-Aware 2008 used to update itself automatically if there were updates available. However my AE version will not do this. I have all the buttons ticked for it to happen but the only way I can get it to happen is to do it manually ie click on the update button. Surely that is what you have to do in the free version not a paid for version. I have always been pleased with Ad-Aware but I am not so sure with this AE version. Has anyone got any ideas of what I should be doing? Hope you can help.

For the "enter serial number" problem, since you're a paid customer, I'd suggest contacting Lavasoft Support via the link in my signature. My guess is that you installed AE over 2008. You could try a clean uninstall first, then reinstall.

The problem with auto-update is AE automatically sets the update time to the time it was installed. Apparently this was done to prevent server overload by randomizing the times. So, if you installed it at a time when you're computer is normally off, it won't update. The time is not switchable and there's no feature to update immediately if the time was missed.

If you try to fix the serial number problem by doing a clean uninstall, make sure you reinstall AE at a time when your computer is normally on - you might be able to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Hi just thought I would let you know that I did contact Lavasoft support and they were able to help sort out the problem. I now have Ad-Aware set up to update itself regularly at the time I installed it and everything seems to be working ok. Thanks for your help.
