Now wuzzupwitdat? ohmy.gif unsure.gif

I unstintalled and reinstalled and still no-joy on SysTray icon.

Yes, the "show notification icon" check-box IS checked. I tried unchecking it rebooting, checking it, rebooting, and STILL no joy.

Process viewer shows no such thing; I see the AW Service running...

Could you check task manager to see if the process AAWTray is running?

If it is, then it's Windows not showing all icons (this is a known issue with Windows itself). If it isn't, then navigate to the Ad-Aware program folder and find the AAWTray application. Then create a shortcut of this and place it in the start up folder.

The AAWTray is not running, only AAWService is running.

Which setting are you talking about? Under Ad-Watch Live!, the 3 choices are for notification/warnings, not for the tray icon. Make sure under Settings/Appearance "Hide taskbar icon" is unchecked. If this isn't it, try Casey's suggestion. AAWTray should appear and be enabled in the msconfig/Startup tab.

Alerts & Notifications: notify me of important events
Appearance - show notification area icon: checked

I pasted shortcut into All Users/Start Menu/program files/Startup and clicked on it. The AWTray icon is present now.

I only have one questoin now:

1) Now that the AAWTray service is running, If I uncheck show notification area icon now in the GUI, I will receive AW notifications if and when they manifest themselves?

2) Since I placed the shortcut into the Startup folder manually, I'm going to have to manually delete it when performing an upgrade or uninstall?
casey_boy
Glad that's worked.

1: I don't think you will. Since I believe AAWTray is the notification system.

2: When you uninstall, yes, I believe you would.

Can you verify that issue concerning "show notification area icon"?

I just unchecked that and the tray notification icon went away, BUT the AAWTray service is STILL running. So my guess is that I WOULD get an AW notification should one manifest itself.

That would be my druther if I had one. However, that notwithstanding, I defer to you expert opinion.
GoddersUK
Yes, if you hide the icon but opt to still recieve notifications and the service is still running you should still receive notifications smile.gif

Looks like this is still an issue in AE v8.1.0. However, the aforementioned workaround works good (lasts long time).
casey_boy
Hmmm. Well I think it must be something to do with your start-up programs, but since the workaround is still ok - I'll close this topic.
