Full Version: Did Ad-Aware delete my program?

I scanned my computer yesterday with Ad-Aware Free Anniversary Edition. It flagged one of my programs (Poker Tracker, a poker database) as a trojan. So I restored it from Quarantine and all was well. I boot up my computer today, though, and it's gone again! It's no longer on Ad-Aware's Quarantine list. Please tell me there's a way to recover this program!!

Hello and thanks for posting,

First let me move this thread to the False Positives forum so our Malware Labs can investigate for you.

If you could please post the Ad-Aware scan log from the scan where you removed the file, it would help us to analyze the problem

You'll find the instructions to locate and post the log here:

Ok I uploaded the log. You can download the wrongly flagged program here: http://www.pokertracker.com/products/PTH/download.php.

My experience is the exact same as the one you describe in this thread: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=26393. "No, I ran into a small problem when I was testing the restore feature on some test files just now. If folks didn't reboot their computer after cleaning and then try to restore from quarantine this particular detection (which is high rated), then it will restore the file but on the next reboot the call to delete the files at reboot will remove them again (and no quarantine)."

Please tell me there is a way to recover this program!!

Thanks for attaching the log file.

That is a different detection (not the one being discussed today).

When exactly did this happen? 16 July?

Yes, 16 July. It has to be the correct scan because it's the only one I've run since I downloaded AE. There are only four log files:

DriveTool.log
Scan_2009-07-16-16-22-50.log
Service_2009-07-16-04-38-15.log
Update.log

Your test file experience is the exact same as mine. I restored the program from Quarantine and it reappeared on my desktop. Ran without a problem. I turned off the computer. Reboot today and it's gone!! Help!!!

I managed to reinstall the program and it looks like it's working. Good luck fixing this bug!

Yes, this is a different report than the ones being received yesterday which was corrected.

I'll ask the Malware Labs to examine your case here to detemine if it is a false detection and, if it is, a new update to address this one would need to be issued.

Please stay tuned here for further info.

And thank you for posting!
