Check the Lavasoft service:

Start/Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services

make sure it's started and set to automatic (right-click Properties to change if necessary).

Thank you for that, I've tried and failed, it just won't start.

Being the fool that I am wub.gif I decided to re-install Ad-Aware 2008 from an installation file, and
would you believe it , it failed on the delete previous version section !

Being a greater fool wub.gif wub.gif I decided to manually delete everything to do with Ad-Aware from my machine,
low and behold three files were left in the Ad-Aware folder, I just could not delete them.

CEAPI.dll
lavamessage.dll
lavalicense.dll.bak

These three files reported "Cannot Delete Cyclical......"

I've tried just about every file delete program that I can find without success, so it looks
like "Goodbye Lavasoft" and "Hello Some Other Anti virus Program", and I may add
it's been all my own fault! sad.gif

Hi,

Have you tried starting in safe mode to delete the files?

If this works, then try installing AE smile.gif

If you rename the folder and/or files, can you delete them? You can also try to replace the files. In another folder or on the desktop, create some empty notepad files *.txt and rename them with the same file names. Then copy or cut/paste to replace them in the folder. After that, you may be able to delete them.

wub.gif Sorry, tried all of the above, with no success.

Thanks for your suggestions, this appears to be an insoluble problem !

I really don't know how I got here.

Ahh...

Umm... well a cyclic redundancy check error is never a good thing. It indicates and error with your hard disk at the point where the file is saved. Do a quick google search on this and you will get some background reading.

Try running the Windows Check Disk and let it fix bad sectors.

Hi Casey,

Before reading the above posting I ran CHKDSK, and low & behold, the problem has
vanished.

You are right it was an error on the hard disc, infact one of what appeared to be many
errors on the hard disc.

I will now try to re-install Ad-Aware, I do not yet have enough confidence with the AE
version to install it, after reading all the horror stories on the AE forum rolleyes.gif

Hi Casey

It would seem that I am being forced to take AE, when I tried to install AD-Aware I found that
I was looking at a 2007 version, obviously out of date, it created AD-Aware but when I tried to
update the definitions IT REFUSED, not surprisingly. tongue.gif

So, I've installed AE and it appears to be running OK for the moment biggrin.gif

Regards and many, many thanks,

Bill

LOL ok smile.gif

Well good luck with AE and if you run into any problems with it - just post in the AE forum for help.

I'll close this topic now, since it appears to be resolved.

Cheers,

Casey
