Dear experts,

I've just bought a renewed license and downloaded Ad-AwareAE.
I installed it and rebooted my system an then ......... NOTHING.
Well that not entirely correct: it showed me a splashscreen with the message "Loading..."
for about 25 seconds an then...... NOTHING. I can't even regiter, the app doesn't start.

I do not know what is going wrong or what I am doing wrong!

My systems specs are:
- Windows XP Professional SP3
- AMD Athlon XP 2800+
- 1x HDD 320 Gb and 1x HDD 500 Gb
- RAM = 1 Gb

Please...help is desperately wanted and appreciated!
My apologies if this topic exists and I didn't look for it hard enough!

alot of people are having this problem including myself. I just did a full system scan and repair through another website and I still have the same problem. I would try calling lavasoft myself, im only using the free ed so its not really a big deal. But if they give you good advice and simple tweak or removal of some program please post it so the rest of us can do it!

Thanks~

Hi - I was having this problem with the latest download of AE. Here's how I fixed it -- Go to Start>ControlPanel>Add/Remove Programs and completely remove any and all versions of AdAware (including AE),

Uncheck the Reboot Now box (we will do this later)

Next, Click Start>My Computer (if My Computer is on your desktop, just double click to open)>C:/>Program Files Look for Lavasoft, open the folder and make sure it is empty, then go back and right click the folder and select delete and confirm the deletion.

Now, go to Start>Run and type 'regedit' this will open your registry editor

***DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES THAN THESE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING IN HERE***

Look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER, click the arrow next to it to expand the folder and scroll to Software, click the arrow to expand and scroll to Lavasoft click the arrow to expand, select AdAware, right click and select delete, click yes (or OK) to the confirmation box. Click any arrows you previously clicked to collapse the open folders.

Now, look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and repeat the previous steps. Once this is done, go to File and select Close.

Now, go to Start>Shutdown>Restart - when your computer restarts, try installing AdAware AE again.

**These instructions are for all versions of XP. For Vista users, the only change to make is in the very first step - you will go to Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features - to remove AdAware.

Again (because this is such an important rule) DO NOT change any entries other than I listed here as you can cause programs to work incorrectly, or not at all, including Windows

Following these steps will give you a clean install of AdAware AE. Hope this helps!

Dear insulatorsplus,

I followed your steps to the letter:
- Uninstalled previous version (did not reboot).
- Deleted all remnants of the previous version.
- Opened Regedit and deleted the Ad-Aware keys you mentioned (leaving both Lavasoft keys empty).
- Rebooted the system.
- Installed the new Ad-AwareAE version.
- Rebooted the system again.
- Checked the keys in Regedit (filled with new Ad-Aware keys).
- Doubleclicked on Ad-Aware.exe (the shortcut) and ...... NOTHING !??!! unsure.gif

Again what's going wrong?
And again, help is much appreciated. wink.gif

Dear insulatorsplus,

I do have to rectify my own comments: insulatorsplus you were right!

Beside your tips (here above) it is prudent to deactivate any security apps like a Antivirus app.
Also the AAWService.exe should be activated (automatically) after installation.

Ad-AwareAE is finally up-and-running!

But I must say, I've never had so much trouble installing previous versions of Ad-Aware.
Better still, I've never had so much trouble installing ANY app, at all!
Nevertheless.... it is working and it looks great and works fine .... so far.... wink.gif

Lavasoft thank you for yet another fine piece of software.
And insulatorsplus thank you for your swift and accurate reply.

Many thanks and bless you all, rolleyes.gif

Glad to hear it is up and running. That was going to be my next suggestion. I try to hold back on disabling any security software until a last resort, as it can leave you vulnerable smile.gif
