I installed and ran Ad-Aware for the first time tonight. It picked up 6 cookies with a TAC of 3. I selected Remove all. A window popped up asking if I would like to submit suspicious files. I said yes. I noticed that all 6 Cookies were gone but at the top in red it said "Clean Failed", does it always say that after removing cookies, or did I miss somthing more important?

Hi Randal,

QUOTE

I've never seen that personally. The best way to check would be to open AAW AE and select "Statistics" in the upper-left:

If your 6 cookies were actually cleaned, they would show up in this section. To be on the safe side, just run a Smart Scan (should be quite fast), which will re-detect them if they are still there.

As you can see from my screenie, I have had 10 tracking cookies removed (TAI 3) and the same "suspicious object" (TAI 1) added to "Ignore" twice wink.gif

This file is actually part of DivX (divx.dll), which Threatwork (the window that you mentioned, I believe) occasionally asks if I wish to submit for analysis - after the first couple of times, I just canceled it.

That depends - was there any file listed in the Threatwork window? If something suspicious is detected during a scan, AAW AE will ask you to submit the file for analysis, and will open Threatwork automatically.

You may also submit files manually if you wish - please open the Help file (bottom right) and search for Threatwork.

FYI, tracking cookies are benign but annoying (privacy-wise) text files - for a rundown on the types of malware and their corresponding TAI level, please see the Threat Analysis Index on the main LS website. Check through the sub-menus on the left.

I should also have added, that in the scan results, if you wish to see what has actually been detected (in whatever category), click on the little black arrow beside "Recommended", and the line will expand to give you the name(s) of anything detected.

I would still use the recommended action, unless you are absolutely certain that the detection is incorrect. That being the case, please post details in the "False Positives" section of the forum for it to checked out.

If it is an FP, it will be removed from detection.

You're welcome smile.gif

Did the Smart Scan come back clean?

I take that you were using the old Ad-Aware SE before? It would be a good idea to read through the Help file when you have time, to familiarize yourself with the way AAW works now.

It came back with three cookies. It did not ask if I wanted to send anything for analysis. The report stated that they were removed successfully. Thanks for you help.
