My Hosts file has over 15,000 files in it.
Some I see by name are sites I searched once.
Is there a way to delete these files or take some of them out?
It takes several minutes to search this file on a quick scan.
What is their purpose anyway?
Seems like junk to me.
Sorry for the newb question.
Any help is appreciated.

Hosts files normally (if installed by security software) prevent the user from visiting malicious sites.
They are there for protection, however, Ad-Aware will only give you this if you are using the Pro version. Which version are you using? Do you have any other security software (such as Spybot SD)?
It is easier to edit the hosts file through the security programs.
