My previous thread on this problem was closed as useless, so I'll present the new questions for this same problem here I suppose...

I understood that the System 1814 error was associated with high CPU usage.
High CPU usage all the time?

Or just when running Ad-Aware scans...?

I don't think I was clear on that. Maybe I'm not very bright. My Mensa card says I am, but that could have been a fluke too I suppose.

Excerpting from the useless thead...

You'll know if you need to fix if you were experiencing the issue. Surely?

It was obvious if you experienced it or not.

I'd not noticed high CPU usage on my Task Manager or high Ram usage either on that monitor. I had noticed that running AA2008 scans seemed to tie up computer resources, but I usually just let it run while I was asleep. Today I finally noticed Error 1814, so I followed the steps to remove core.aawdef Then restart the computer and restart Ad-Aware. Now when I try to update I get this! It is incorrect, as I was connected the net on two servers at the time! Now what, please...?!

I am having the same problem trying to update with new definintion files following the deletion of the old file.

So then I came to the office with another puter with my AA2008. It hadn't been updated since March 10, so I tried to do that - watching closer for error notices. It wouldn't update on several tries, and now it seems to hang on getting updates...??

It will scan without excessive CPU usage, but why bother with week old definitions.

I really wanted more information on my useless thread, but now I really need more information, please.

Try manually downloading the definition file from here: http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/securitycenter/blog and installing them.

As I said, I got false notices of no internet connections on Ad-Aware 2008E on 2 puters yesterday, and AE update manager would try to run on another but fail. Figured out more on my own while getting no responses.

Today, I get a very slow update on 2008E on the one that finally showed Error 1814 and which I did the Hidden Files extraction so that problem was fixed, but still AE update manager would try to run on another but fail. Won't see the other 2008E computer today and not going to ask anyone else to try todaty; maybe later.

I am simply not interested in having to do manual downloads of definitions, but thanks for the suggestion. If I have to use booster cables to start a car, I fix the car rather than carrying booster cables everywhere.

I'm having the same problem as well today with the software update feature...getting an error message saying that I do not have an internet connection, which is not true....the definitions file download finally worked, but it was very slow.

That's the one. I finally got my 2008E to update, started a scan, left for a couple of hours, but when I came back - found this waiting for me (see pic below). I clicked OK, 'cuz what esle can you do, and the whole thing closed. I'll try it again later.

After that, tried to update my AE2009 and it finally did update. It ran a Full scan in less than an hour finding nothing. I have never, ever had a spy/ad program not find any cookies, but then I haven't used that puter much lately; maybe it worked.
