... hello...

... i have issues with un\reinstalling the free ad-aware software, which till today always helped me a lot and has been very useful...

... my laptop has vista and i tried just about anything one possibly could try to uninstall and reinstall a better version of your great product... from uninstall in remove programs, to uninstall directly with the shortcut in the specific folder, to running these actions also as an administrator... nothing worked...

... then i found this site (luckily) and tried the following instructions i found in your forums that were posted by jeff...

QUOTE(jeff)
Location Vista: (Vista) - C:\ProgramData\Lavasoft \Ad-Aware\ core.aawdef

Then restart the computer and restart Ad-Aware.

Instead of restarting your computer, you can also restart the Ad-Aware service manually after you delete the corrupt def file.
1. Go to the start menu, click 'Run...' and type 'services.msc'
2. In the services window, locate 'Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service', select it and then click 'Stop'
3. When the service is stopped in Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service, click 'Start'
4. Start Ad-Aware again.

... unfortunately the above didnt\doesnt work either... for starters there is no folder named programdata in my laptop, however program files, yet the core.aawdef isnt present anywhere either...

... i would greatly appreciate your help in this case, since it saddens me to not being able to get a better free version than the one i have installed... also, for some reason, the one i have installed actually doesnt work at all and i would get error messages as well... very strange all... am totally lost with what to do from here...

... thank you for your help & patience...

Hi,

Firstly we need to configure viewing hidden files:

Go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options
Click on the View tab
Make sure this option is selected:

* Show hidden files and folders

Click Apply and then click OK

Then you will need to navigate to the folder:
Start > Computer > double click C: > navigate to C:\ProgramData\Lavasoft \Ad-Aware\ by double clicking on the appropriate folders > find core.aawdef and delete it.

No problem. I'm glad it's fixed.

If you follow the instructions again but choose to hide the folders then you'll be back to normal smile.gif I'll close this topic now.
