A big fan of AdAware for many years - uninstalled ver 2007 to update to ver 2008.

Aawservice.exe now grabbing 100% CPU usage (ok, actually 90-99%) and 150MB RAM - all this occuring in the background with AdAware not running or open. I can't get it to stop. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. AdAware no longer starts up. I receive a system error: 1814 "Could not log in to service. Are you running this application as another user? Application terminates" when trying to open it. Yet CPU usage still at 99%

I have this running in two of my other PCs with no probs. Haven't found any similar posts. I can't be the only one with this problem. I'm not running anything particularly unusual or exotic.

I have the same exact situation. Huge fan of Adaware for many years with maybe only one program reload because of problems with an update. It finds more security problems on the pc than any other product that I have used. Now I have 100% CPU usage, 150MB RAM used by aawservice.exe, "Could not log in" error and Adaware no longer starts up. This started happening yesterday. I do not know if it is related, but the only thing that was changed on my pc yesterday was that that a java update was pushed to my computer. As of yesterday I also have to hit the "End Now" button to end the java related jusched.exe program when I shut down my computer.

Sure. Glad to Help. My unemployment ran out yesterday......plenty of time....until I can't afford this internet connection any more.

OS: Windows XP Professtional
Version 2002, Sp 3

Computer: Intel Based Pentium 4, 2.6GHZ, 1GB RAM

Installed Security Software:
SpyBot Search & Destroy version 1.6.2.0
Mcafee (Security Center version 8.1, Viruscan version 12.1)
SpyWare Blaster Version 4.1

I disabled all backround programs (From System Tray) except for Mcafee and retried. Same problem.

ok
push...
WIN + <R>--type services.msc--locate the Lavasoft entry and stop the service.
Create a system restore point.
download and install 'Revo uninstaller'*
Use Revo for uninstalling AE in the advanced mode.
Reboot
If you want to try AE again , disable ALL security software (especially S&D TeaTimer) during download and install.
If you need further advice, feel free to post back.

Thanks for those procedures. However, I will not try it for a few days to make sure that both the problem and removal procedures are fully debugged first. Not worth the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death". This would be a bad time for that, although I do have a backup Linux computer.
