You obviously can't read. When I let the updates (read: UPDATES not upgrade) run on 2008 is destroys the aawservice.exe and makes 2008 unusable leaving your ONLY option to go with AE. If you are running 2008, you haven't updated in a few weeks obviously. I have done it on 5 different computers now with the same results. The latest "definition updates" make 2008 non-functional. Lavasoft did the same thing with 2007 about this time last year to make everyone "upgrade" to 2008.
I just don't understand why lavasoft can't live by the rule "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". They used to have the best adware tool, but it has gotten worse every year and AE is just the most worthless piece of junk I have ever used.
But anyway I solved my problem. It is called Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware.
I have used Ad-aware since the original release, but no more. And from the looks of the AE boards, alot of other people are going to be jumping ship too.
Ok, I'll admit that I was not aware of the newest problem. I do udate 2008E often, last update was March 11, but have had no problems. Looking at the file in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft \Ad-Aware\core.aawdef referenced on the linked thread that is closed for questions, I see that it last updated on January 5. Maybe I missed this bullet...?

Had to edit the post, went out of the shop and when I came back posted my reply to this and did not see the answer.
So the next question is Jeffery, When will it be safe to update AE-2008, if the current def files are messed up or causing the problems how will we know when it's ok to download the updated one?
Reason I ask I run a computer repair shop here in town and on each system repaired all of my customers have AE-2008 and I have always told them to keep the program updated or buy the full vers. Now I am going to be flooded with calls in which I am going have to fix the problem for them because I recommended AE to them.
Now I am tempted to go with mscheaf:
"Remove all traces of Lavasoft and run these other spy/ad protections programs" as I don't want to suggest C-file surgery to most of my friends. Gawd!
