Hi.

I have always been impressed with the Ad-Aware software, and now when i read that an antivirus feature is bundled with the Plus version i really get excited.

Only problem i am having is that i can't seem to find anywhere to try that out in a trial version. By using the link at the following address (http://www.lavasoft.com/trial_center/) i click on the Ad-Aware Plus 30-Day trial link. That takes me to PCWorld for some reason, where it clearly states it's the Plus version i am downloading. However, upon installing i only get the FREE version with no Antivirus features enabled. I've tried numerous other downloads all ending with a FREE version instead of the Plus version that i really want to test.

So, what to do? Is there really a trial version of Ad-Aware Plus and if so, what am i doing wrong?

Thanks.

Have you tried using the trial version before (maybe even 2008?)?

Hello, gurkoz:

I ran into this same problem, before. When you attempt to install the trial version, have you disabled all other security-related software on your computer? Also, do you have an active Internet connection, while you are installing the Ad-Aware trial software? What I discovered, unfortunately, is that you must have an active Internet connection, when you install the trial version of Ad-Aware, as the installer appears to "register" the trial version, during the installation process. If an active Internet connection is not available, at the time of installation, the installer will only install the FREE version and will never report any errors or problems; the installation appears to be trouble-free, but, you do not get the PLUS or PRO trial versions, only the FREE version. I have not been able to install a trial version, offline, and then register the trial version, once I reboot.

I hope this helps.

Aha! I guess this is the solution to this, great! Thanks man! But i must say it's a bit of strange. I personally, always install antivirus software BEFORE i plug in my internet connection, in that way i am certain that no unwanted virus gets by during the installation. But i guess i have to take a chance this time. To me, it's a poor design judgment by Lavasoft going this way, and i am pretty sure i am not the only one getting a FREE version instead of Plus or Pro and not knowing what the H*ll happened. Perhaps it's a technical thing but in the end it really confuses people.
