Under the Settings/Appearance tab there is the option to turn off the display of the AdWatch icon that appears there by default...I have ticked the box not to show but it keeps coming back. How can I make it permanently stay away...I don't like my system tray littered with unnecessary icons.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Can I confirm that you are hitting "OK" not "Cancel" in the settings box.

Please ensure that you have allowed this change in any programme that may be watching your registry (e.g. Spybot S&D Tea Timer)

Thanks for your response...

Yes I have clicked on OK. I do use Spybot S&D but do not use the Tea Timer option.

My problem is very hit and mis...sometimes when I boot into windows (XP Pro) the icon does not appear and other times it does even though the settings option is for it not to appear.
I also run AVG 8 free...do you know if that could have any effect on the re-appearing icon.

Thanks

Hi

Please try this:

Go to Start > Run > msconfig

Under the boot tab please deselect AdAware Tray and see if that helps.

EDIT: Note this will have a slightly different effect to hiding the icon - it will completely close the AAW tray service so you will also receive NO NOTIFICATIONS etc from the programme.

Thaks again for your advise...

I have done as you say and de-selected AAW from the Startup list.
I do hope that by doing this I do not lose any protection.

Thanks

Hi, Any chance of getting a reply to my last concern...'I do hope that by doing this I do not lose any protection'

Thanks
LS Tobias
If you want Ad-Watch to run, but not have the icon in the task bar, go to Settings > Appearance and make sure that the option Hide taskbar icon is checked. If you then go to the Main Status screen and make sure that it says Realtime Protection: On. Then you have the protection, but not the icon.

Tobias

Thanks for your reply...however if you read my posts you will see that I have the option set not to display the tray icon but it randomly keeps coming back.
If I do as Golders UK say's and disable AAW from the startup list under msconfig am I still protected.

Thanks
