Why oh Why will AE update on the laptop with vista premium with no problems tonight but when I try to update on the main comp with vista basic it comes up with connection error,check your proxy settings ?
This has never happened before we have had SE,2007/8 and now AE that I got with your pop up so I did a system restore took that version off and then got it again from your mirror site CNET same thing with both versions and having read posts about problems with it wiping comps i may take it off and do the same on the laptop.
there are a lot of files on this desktop and do not want to loose them after all that is why we have ad-aware,avast,malware-bytes .
We are told every day by the press,TV,internet that there are people out there who will destroy your comp,hijack it,clone your comp for illegal downloads and more so that is why we use you,but with this. I am not going to take a chance and get another program unless tonight someone tells me why it has happened and tells me how to update this version of AE on the desktop.
Most users of this software have the free version and are not very computer literate and do not have access to a IT department

Please could you check that AdAware is allowed through your firewall and that your proxy settings are correct, and that you have FULL internet connectivity on that computer. Regarding wiping computers - that happened to 0.01% of users who downloaded a certain update and the error was fixed the same day. You are NOT at risk from this.

EDIT: The only way to ensure that your documents are truly safe is to take regular back ups. No AV software, however good can protect you from, for instance, hard drive failure.
