I find it a bit ironic that Ad-Aware offered me a Valentine's Day special today...

Does anyone know if these things can be disabled?
casey_boy
are you sure ad-aware did this? what exactly happened?

It's not email; it's an alert directly from the AE - opens up to spam. I like my spam from a canned, heated with Bar-B-Q sauce. wink.gif

No, it's not spam

Yes, that is a special one-time offer (Valentine's special) via a one-time popup message that disappears on it's own.

This offer is for Ad-Aware Plus 1 year for free with Trial Pay.

Hello,
CalamityJane, could you please specify what file or files and their locations, that would be connected to the Valentines offer? I would like to check to make sure it is not still in my computer. What makes the file disappear and where dose it go?
Now that I think about that, I do not really appreciate a program or files installed on my computer, without my knowledge, and then secretly uninstall them too! That just seems wrong to me.
I hope the file names and locations are not a secret too.
Thank you in advance,
Wink

You only get the offer once and it is deleted. If you missed it you won't see it again.

It isn't a file or separate program, it is a feature of the Ad-Aware program called Mini-message.

It is not a separate program as Janie mentioned, it is merely a displaced popup from Ad-Aware.

in Ad-Aware 2008, a log-file of the minimessage is stored in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\MiniMessage
in Ad-Aware AE, it is stored in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\MiniMessage
on vista the path is c:\ProgramData\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware

If the log file is removed, Ad-Aware will not know if you have received a minimessage or not, and may show it once again.

Hi,
Thank you, Sabastian, I will look these files up right away. Is there any more of these types of files secretly lurking in Ad-Aware AE?
I have only one log file that has anything in it, there is no reference to any mini message, all the rest of the logs generated are empty.
Good day,
Wink
