I've have had Ad-Aware Pro edition for years and no problems. I had to uninstall the AE edition and revert back to 2008 Pro version due to it Freezing everytime it hits the "Critical Areas" portion of the scan. Just wondering why the Pro edition works, but the AE Pro edition doesnt? I am running Zone Alarm Security Suite... Though it doesnt impact the version of ad-aware i'm currently running. I have tried turning off ZA to see if it is causing issues, but still hangs in Critical areas. Is the Aniversary edition a "Must upgrade"? or can I simply continue with the One I purchased originally. Will future purchases require me to proceed to AE?

In addition it still hangs in the tracking.log in the "System Volume Information" folder... then again the old one required exceptions to bypass that.

Any Ideas? Thanks in Advance. I have always loved this software.

It still locks at critical areas. I turned Ad-Watch off by default... I'm using ZA for that type of protection. I know there isnt an easy answer as it's working fine on my kids computers. It is possible a service or other App is locking it. Just wondering if anyone had a trick I havent tried.

what other security systems are you using?

The only security on my pc is Zone Alarm Security Suite. I tried scanning with it and Ad-Watch turned off... It still locks on Critical areas... Different files at different times, depending on the options I turn off or on in AE Ad-Aware. The last one hung on a printcache.bin file (not exact name) Again the old one works fine, but the AE version doesn't... My kids have the same version of Windows, ZA, and AE Ad-Aware is working fine for them (Ad-Watch running as well). On mine I turned off the virus portion of AE as well as Ad-Watch just in case... It always locks on tracking.log, but that was the case in the old one as well. Still critical area seems to be a problem. Yes I have considered re-installing Windows and giving it a try as I do like the product. The new interface is really nice. I know it is hard to answer such a question and is even more difficult to ask as I have been a PC and Network Tech for twenty years.

As I can't currently access the support section of Lavasoft. Just throwing this extra in. The file that it is freezing on at first is core.aawdef.fingerprintdiskcache.bin. This file is created when opening Ad-Aware. Still digging into the problem until I access the support site.

Deactivate service “Monitoring of distributed linkages“ solves the problem

System control - > Administration - > Computer administration - > Services and applications - > Services

Kontrolliert und korrigiert die Verknüpfungen von NTFS Dateien zwischen vernetzten Rechnern: Ist etwa eine Datei auf "Rechner A" durch einen Shortcut auf "Rechner B" verlinkt, und man verschiebt die Zieldatei auf "Rechner A", so veranlasst dieser Dienst "Rechner B", den geänderten Link automatisch zu aktualisieren.
Wir halten diesen Service für mehr als marginal und deaktivieren ihn in der PC-Welt-Konfiguration (pcwVistaServices.HTA).
