Please feel encouraged to correct me here if needed, but Norton and McAfee systems seem to be the worst. My personal hunch, for whatever little it may be worth, is that they are the most common so the bad guys focus on writing attack codes that will get by them.

I agree with the above suggestion of replacing your current anti virus with Avast - free for home users. Set it on highest and run a boot time scan. See if it will clean it up for you.
