I'm currently evaluating the file shredding program. As part of the evaluation, I shredded a file which had previous versions saved by Vista's system protection mechanism. Despite choosing to shred the previous versions, I find that all the previous versions of the file remain in tact and can be edited by Excel (the file was a spreadsheet). I have tested this using Lavasoft File Shredder, Blancco File Shredder and SafeIT's Digital Document shredder and all editions of this one program (written by SafeIT) fail to remove the previous versions. The lavasoft log file records success in removing the file and all previous versions.
Has anyone else had this problem? I use Vista x64 but I note from a previous post by a Lavasoft moderator that the program is compatible with Vista x64. Please help me moderator.
For the benefit of other people who may be looking for a File Shredder, I have had a response from SafeIT, the makers of the software, and Blancco, the other OEM who sells the same shredder under their branding. They both informed me that the current version does not support shredding previous versions under 64-bit Vista, but the next version will. The next version (7.7.0) is due out from those vendors most likely this northern winter.
To Lavasoft: thanks for not supporting me as an evaluator of your software. Other readers who may be evaluating the product can draw their own conclusions about this. I might point out that the other vendors of this product do not claim support for 64-bit Vista, but Lavasoft does, on this very forum. In Australia, that constitutes misleading and deceptive behaviour under section 52 of our Trade Practices Act and is subject to significant fines and refund of purchase money. Most jurisdictions have very similar laws.
