I had 2008 installed and went for the new Anniversary Edition (AE) and got a no run when download completed! ohmy.gif

Unistalled and Re-tried 3 times, (took approx 3 hrs) and still no run! unsure.gif Tried registry cleans with ccleaner and Commodo registry cleaner to get rid of a suspect Ad-AwareAE.exe left behind during a uninstall and still no open or run! Tried to find a 2008 version that I was running before but have not located a previous 2008 for downloazding!
I have gave-up on AE, too much wasted time! (Maybe Lavasoft will come up with a work-around later or????

Does anyone know where I can find a 2008 version for downloading? huh.gif

Computer is Windows XP Home edition, Version 2002, SP-3!

I have exactly the same problem. I have been running AdAware 2008 for a few weeks now (I liked it a lot!), and finally I gave in to the pop-up that wanted me to upgrade to AE. After upgrading to AE, it will not work. When I click on the icon, I get about ten seconds of hourglass cursor, and then nothing happens.

I tried uninstalling, and reinstalling. No better. I tried taking down the firewall and trying again. No change.

I have an HP desktop running XP 2005 media center.

How do I get the Anniversary Edition to run?

If it never does work, how do I revert to AdAware 2008?

Thanks for any info,

Hi Arkie743,

I can confirm what you are writing. I have exactly the same problem - also with Windows XP, SP3.

First the AE installation seems to work correctly. At the end of the installation the latest updates from Lavasoft are downloaded and installed. However, when you try to start Ad-Aware AE after the installation, nothing happens. Also a reboot of the PC does not change anything. AE does not start!

Seems that AE has not been very well tested before releasing it on the web and that Lavasoft urgently has to do some udates and improvements and definitely better testing on different SW configurations in advance.

I have uninstalled AE again and run a Registry Cleaner program after the uninstallation to get rid of any potentially wrong AE settings in the registry. Afterwards that I re-installed Ad-Aware 2008 (Rel. 7.1.0.12). Search for "aaw2008.exe" on the web. You will still find this "old" version on some pages.

Best regards

MODEDIT GoddersUK: Please do not suggest that people download AAW from anywhere other than Lavasoft or its official mirror(s) (currently download.com). This carries a lot of potential security risks.

Thanks,

In the instruction post link reference above, I see this sentence:
-- I found a dead service called aawservice.exe and actually removed it from the services list.

Need info for locating the dead service mentioned and removal from the SERVICE LIST? wub.gif
(I did a search for aawservice.exe in all files and folders (show hidden files and folders) and local hard drives C and found nothing)
Wonder if the dead service mentioned was actually located with the EXTENDED TASK MANAGER program or if this program was ONLY used to delete the dead service?

Thanks!

I went to this link http://www.filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/ and downloaded the 2008 version that I was previously running, updated, scanned and all ok! biggrin.gif
I'll not do the the AE update and ignore the AE update prompts until I get a work-around, etc!
