Hello there! I was wondering if anyone else is encountering this.
I have just recently upgraded to Adaware AE, and I have noticed that the Full Scan seems to take 3 to 4 times as long as the previous Adaware 2008 program did.
For example, with Adaware 2008, a Full Scan of my system would take around 2 hours, to 2 hours 30 mins at the most. When running a Full Scan with Adaware AE, it takes more than 6 hours. Since i upgraded just the other day, i only ran the Full Scan two times. The first time, I gave up and ended the scan after 6 hours. The second time, which is currently running, it has been scanning now for 6 hours and 45 minutes, and has scanned 138,440ish objects thus far.
This seems peculiar to me, as I honestly did not think the scanning time would increase so drastically. I really do enjoy using this version, but I do not understand why a full scan takes 3 to 4 times as long as it used to.
Is this normal? Has anyone else noticed a significantly longer scanning time?
If I ever finish a scan, I'll post the details. Before installing AE, I updated the existing installation (version 7.1.0.12), and ran a full scan. It took 1 hour 50 minutes to scan 206 803 files.
I then installed AE. After a couple of false starts (same error messages as others have mentioned in the forums), I tried a full scan. For a long time, it sat at 1 minute 26 (!). When I told it to stop scanning, nothing happened. I eventually had to shut Ad-Aware down completely. On restarting it, I launched another full scan (hey, let's give it a chance.) That was 2 hours 20 minutes ago. It's scanned about 28 300 files so far. At this rate, it could take 13 1/2 hours to work its way through all the files. If it's still scanning when I get up, I'll uninstall it, I think.
Perhaps it's only intended for use with really powerful computers? I'm trying it on an old laptop with Windows XP, a 1 GHz CPU and 512 mb RAM. Since the CPU's running at close to 100% most of the time, I'm borrowing another machine to write this.
A pity, really, as it looked like a really promising program. Perhaps it was released a little too soon, and will be sorted out in due course??? I'm really glad I didn't try the paid version first!
Anyway, I'll try to give you a time if and when the scan completes. I just hope the computer lasts that long
