I am not understanding what to do. No files come up to shred does this mean its all clean? If i shred a file will it only shred the old stuff? How do i look at the old stuff before it gets shredded? What if i accidental shred a file that i needed? This does not make any sense. Is there a number a can call to talk with someone (without paying!)?

Hi,
You may visit the Lavasoft Support Center (link in my signature) for support for LS File Shredder.
You may also want to read the programme manula -

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I don't have a copy of File Shredder to play around with. (Although in answer to the last question - of you shred a file you need? It's gone. There's nothing you can do. It's gone wherever old files go when they die - and that's a one way journey.)

When you delete something from your recycle bin it remains on the disk, but the references to it are deleted (it is still recoverable, but hard to find) - eventually your computer will probably save another file there and it will be lost. Lavasoft File Shredder physically rights over the file on the disk with a random (depending on the algorithm used) set of ones and zeroes to make your file truly irrecoverable.
As I said I'm afraid that I'm unable to help with the specifics of the programme as I don't have access to it but if you are still confused I can try and find someone who does to help you.
