G'day from OZ (downunder) cool.gif ,
I recently downloaded AND INSTALLED a trial version of LAVASOFT ANTI-VIRUS HELIX with the intention of, after a satisfactory trial, purchasing this product BUT after installation, successful registration and testing by opening my email program, Mozilla Thunderbird, I am not impressed with the outcome.
EVERY TIME I opened Thunderbird to check for emails I received a message informing me that Thunderbird has "timed out" with my ISP.
The main reason for me trialing the software was to find A RELIABLE anti-virus program that scanned all incoming emails for possible viruses.
I have since uninstalled LAVASOFT ANTI-VIRUS HELIX and reverted back to a free program that does scan all incoming emails SUCCESSFULLY!!!!!!
Can someone please guide me through a SUCCESSFUL installation AND configuration of LAVASOFT ANTI-VIRUS HELIX for Vista Home Basic!!!!

Hi there LS Calamity Jane,
thank you for your rapid response to my problem. Prior to receiving your response I did a little digging of my own and found that the reason for not being to receive emails was the fact that I had another email anti-virus scanner (AVG) running silently in background. I uninstalled the said program and am now able to receive "scanned" emails.
With regards to sending emails : I tried your "fix" i.e UNTICK "scan outgoing emails" in Lavasoft Anti-Virus Helix PLUS altered Mozilla Firefox "port settings" as set out in your FAQ BUT I still cannot send emails and keep getting the following message : SENDING OF MESSAGE FAILED. THE MESSAGE COULD NOT BE SENT BECAUSE CONNECTING TO SMTP SERVER (mail.bigpond.com) FAILED. THE SERVER MAY BE UNAVAILABLE OR IS REFUSING SMTP CONNECTIONS. PLEASE VERIFY THAT YOUR SMTP SERVER SETTING IS CORRECT AND TRY AGAIN.
As I feel I do not need to scan my outgoing emails, and never have, this event, since installing your program, is very VERY disconcerting and unless this issue is resolved I am left with no other option than to UNINSTALL Lavasoft Anti-Virus Helix and RE-INSTALL AVG.
Sincerely Yours

Hi youngatheart1946,

Its good to see you resolved the problem with incoming emails.
If you do not require the mailguard to scan outgoing mails, in the mailguard settings untick the option to 'scan outgoing emails' (SMTP).
Also in your email program, Mozilla Thunderbird make sure that SSL is selected from the instructions below.

* Open Mozilla Thunderbird -> Tools -> Account Settings
* Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) and press Edit
* Under Use secure connection, select SSL(Port 465)
* Press OK and close Configuration.

If the problem continues please check the mailguard log for any error messages.
To do this click 'display report file' from the mailguard window, please post any error messages shown so that we can look into these further.

Regards
John - Lavasoft Support.

Hello John,
I followed your instructions EXACTLY as you set out but I still CANNOT send UNSCANNED emails and still get the same Thunderbird message as before.
I have attached the ONLY REPORT I get in MailGuard.Click to view attachment

Hi youngatheart1946,

Thanks for posting the log, the mailguard has started correctly.
I just tested this and it seems to be working fine, but my mail servers and isp are different than the ones you use.
I did notice one setting that could be causing this, in thunderbird.

* Open Mozilla Thunderbird -> Tools -> Account Settings
* Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) and press Edit
* Untick the option for 'use name and password' and click ok

Then try to send the mail.

Regards
John - Lavasoft Support.

Hello John,
I applied your latest suggestion to "fix" my email problem and once again it did not work. As I NEED to send emails regularly I have decided to TOTALLY UNINSTALL your program and continue using my other application. Thank you for your support but I will no longer use your program due to its incompatibility with my OS and computer.
