Hello, I have used adaware fore years but recently when trying to update I ran into problems. After unsuccessful attempt to uninstall the program I followed the instructions on this forum regarding updating windows installer and also using revo uninstaller. the original error issue has cleared but a new error has popped up at the end of the new install.

The message says: Access violation at address 0054B4EC in module "Ad-Aware.exe" Read of address 00000294

As well as some other non-english stuff that maybe spanish or itallian?

Can you help?

So you managed to successfully remove the old version?

On to the next problem - the most likely cause is DEP (Data Execution Prevention). You can either turn this off for all programmes except essential Windows services or add a specific exception for Ad-Aware.

To turn this off go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings (Vista only) > Advanced > Performance Settings > Data Execution Prevention

Then either select "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" or "Add" and then navigate to "C:/Program Files/Lavasoft/Ad-Aware/Ad-Aware.exe"

(XP instructions are from memory and may be very slightly incorrect)

EDIT: You will probably need to add all of the following exceptions - Ad-Aware.exe, lsupdate.exe and AAWService.exe

Let me know if it works smile.gif

Thanks, that seems to have fixed the problem. I am running XP BTW and the instructions were perfect.
