Full Version: AdAware 2008 Hangs @ InProcess Server 32

Erhard
Greetings,

Every time I run a full scan using Ad-Aware 2008, the program hangs while deep scanning the registry. It hangs up on an object called "InprocServer32," the path is "CLSID\{D8F1EEEO-F634..."

I have the most updated version and definitions. I have tried uninstallnig and reinstalling and it still gets stuck in the same place. This does not happens when I run a Smart Scan.

Any advice someone can provide would be much appreciated.

MODEDIT GoddersUK:

Erhard: I'm going to close this thread now to prevent it being resurrected unnecessarally again (resurrection now split to separate thread), however if you would like it reopened please just PM me or another mod.

Thanks, GoddersUK

Hi Erhard biggrin.gif
it's a known glitch , hope they fix it in 2009.
Meanwhile you should disable the deep archive scan.
It's also possible that the Inprocserver32 key is broken ( Macromedia )
try to uninstall the Flash Player reboot and start a fresh install, sometimes
this solved the problem.

I tried deleting the Flash Player and that didn't work. All that happened was that it hung on a different CLSID inprocserver setting. It only happens on one desktop running Windows XP. I have another desktop and a laptop running Windows XP and another laptop running Windows 2000, and it doesn't happen on those computers. All are running Ad-Aware 2008. Is it a problem with this installation of Ad-Aware 2008, or is it something quirky with a combination of of various applications running on my system?

Hi,

It would be helpful if you could start a new topic with queries in the future smile.gif. Could you tell me exactly what item it hung on and what service pack of Windows you are running? Otherwise please follow Raziel's advice in the original post and disable the deep archive scan.

Hi,

I'm the one who posted the original query. I only recently became aware of Raziel's advice via email alert of Emanual's posting to my query. For some reason I never received an email about Raziel's advice when it was posted in early December, maybe because the thread was closed out so quickly.

My thanks to Raziel for the advice, but unfortunately it did not work for me either. Like Emanuael, I uninstalled Adobe Flashplayer, rebooted and re-ran Ad-Aware 2008. For me, it hung up in exactly the same place. Next I followed Raziel's second bit of advice and changed my Ad-Aware settings to disable deep archive scanning. It still hangs in exactly the same place, even after closing Ad-Aware and rebooting. The item it hangs on is still InprocServer32, the path is "CLSID\{D8F1EEEO-F634..." I am running Windows XP Home, Service Pack 3.

At this point I am only able to run an Ad-Aware smart scan without it hanging up.

Any further advice?

>download and install 'Revo Uninstaller' (link in sig.)

can't find it, if so

@Erhard
new attempt ...
plz download and install CCleaner ( link in sig.)
Open CCleaner an hit the 'Registry' button.

Run a search for reg.-faults - only search DON'T start the cleaning process.
Now make a screen shot* and copy/paste the results in your next reply.

* A screenshot is a copy of your screen.

How to make a screenshot

1. Select the window you want to make a screenshot of.

2. Capture an image of your screen.
* Windows Users: Find and press the "Print Screen" key on the keyboard. It is usually labeled PrtScrn. This will copy an image of the screen into the Windows clipboard. Alternatively, you may use our free Screenshot Pilot software.

* Macintosh Users (OS X): Press Command-Shift-3. This will capture an image of the screen and save it to your hard drive. Look for a file named Picture 1 (the number may change if you already have images saved in this manner).
3. Open a graphics editing program (for example, Microsoft Paint or Paint Shop Pro).

4. Paste the image into the editor. This is most often done by using the menu Edit | Paste command or by pressing Ctrl+V. If your capture method saved the image to disk, you may need to open the image file.

5. Save the image in JPG, GIF or PNG format.

6. Check the size of the file you've just saved. If it is too large (more than 1 Mb), try adjusting the compression settings or crop only the necessary area of the screenshot.

Sorry about closing that thread prematurely... I just presumed we were unlikely to see you again and it's nice for each problem to have it's own thread. I may merge the two threads together again if it gets too confusing having the problem in one thread and the solution in another.

Once again, my apologies, GoddersUK

I had the same problem and checked with Sysinternals Procmon.exe what is was exactly doing in the registry when it hangs. Procmon told me that aawservice.exe was running in a loop at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. I checked the entries there and found that looping starts when aawservice.exe is trying to read the following key: "SpybotSD TeaTimer". And yes, at this point in time I had SpybotSD TeaTimer running. TeaTimer is a Spybot registry monitoring tool that asks for confirmation whenever a change in the registry occures. So I rebooted the system, made sure TeaTimer is stopped before Adaware was started and now my Deep Scan runs through. I advise to stop all kinds of registry monitoring tool while you are running Adaware.

Hope this helps.

Hey, thanks for that.

Spybot S&D does warn about an incompatability with Ad-Aware, however that is related to finding infections in Spybot's backup files (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/compati...ty/adaware.html). Will check whether this is a known issue and pass it onto both Lavasoft and Spybot if not.

Again, thanks.

Thanks for the advice, Raziel. I downloaded CCleaner and ran a registry check. It turned up way more issues than could be captured in one screen shot. It turned out to be 24 screen shots, which I put into an Adobe PDF, zipped and attached, but it's still 1.9 MB. That's as small as I could get it with the software I have. Sorry. Please let me know your further thoughts.

Best,
~erhard

Erhard
No problem, I managed to pick it up again. Hopefully the issue will be resolved this time.

I have Spybot on my computer as well, but am not running the Tea Timer. I was running SDHelper, another Spybot resident program. I turned that off, but it does not solve the problem of Ad-Aware hanging up. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

In the red frame you'll find LocalServer32 (Macromedia) --delete it also.

Hi Raziel,

I finally got a chance to try your suggestion and AAW still hangs at exactly the same place while deep-scanning the registry. Did you have additional suggestions using ccleaner?

Thanks,
~erhard

Hi,

Raziel's and the rest are great just got a similar problem fixed.

I believe that SDfix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/sdfix.php is what finally solved the deep registery scan problem, though each step did flush out errors within the system.

Good luck,
Lance biggrin.gif

Hi Raziel,

I was out sick for a month and so never got around to thanking you for all your good help and advice. My problems with Ad-Aware 2008 were resolved when Anniversary Addition came out. It runs great. Thanks also for turning me on to CCleaner.

Regards,
~erhard
