Full Version: High Memory Usage

I have been a fan of Lavasoft's products for quite some time so when I saw helix I was instantly curious. I downloaded the trial and it found 57 objects that other scanners did not notice (AdAware SE being one of them)

Since I am a gamer by nature, I didn't look just at what the program did, but how it did it. One thing that really surprised me was the memory usage of the avnotify.exe program.

500mb? Seriously? I had just performed a full system scan, but it should have cleaned that up when the scan was finished. And, it appears to be increasing as I type this post. In 15 minutes, it has risen another 40 mb.

Any clue as to why and if it is likely to be fixed?

Did you by chance hit the "Virus Information" icon after or during your scan to find out what a file was infected with? This will launch avnotify.exe which is the programs notification tool. It's okay to end the process since it not essential to protection.

I can confirm it's high memory usage in Helix. It doesn't seem to working correctly either. A window is supposed to pop up letting you search the virus database. I get no window, but the process launches and it's memory usage climbs slowly.

Quick fix I guess would be to not hit that icon for now.

Indeed you are correct. I clicked the link on several of my 57 items found due to the infection name being one that I didnt recognize, but I got an error about no internet connection...

Thanks for clearing that up.

Thanks for trying this out gidustin and reporting the problem (and to chia, also!)

I've sent this bug report in to the Home Office so they can address this issue!
