Howdy,

Anyone else trying to download and install the new definition 0125.0000 of September 26th, 2008?

When I try to download it Ad-Aware tells me I am up to date and my last definition file is 0124. huh.gif

What gives?

Thanks and regards,

I just tried to download 125, but it only downloaded the antivirus files for the plus and pro version. I don't think the download is ready yet even though its posted. Be patient it probably be ready in few hours.
On a another note, I did have trouble going from 123 to 124. It kept dropping the download over and over again. The little bar would get about half way and then boom, it would drop back down to nothing. I've never seen it do that before. Whatever the glitch was that caused the dropped update might be the reason that the 125 update isn't ready.
Don't quote me on that, just guessing.

Well, its back up and going. Funny thing I was at my home premium computer messing with it when I tried to download. The last time was at 120, anyway it went without a hitch. I then got back to this comp. 64 Ult. and it wouldn't download it, so its stuck on 124. If yours does this, don't worry it isn't a problem you can just manually install it. Let me know if if it happens to you to.

Thanks for compliment

Morning Txnnok,

Nope ... still no luck in using the update feature. Still showing 124. sad.gif

I will wait a few more times before going the 'manual' update' route.

I tried finding the link to go to the manual update and couldn't find it??

Thanks and regards,

Hi,

I haven't been able to download the latest definition update (125). Someone suggested I download it manually.

However, I have searched the Lavasoft site from top to bottom and I can't find it.

Any ideas?

Thanks and regards,

Sorry, I didn't get back sooner. I laid down for a nap and collapsed for half the day. Ok here's the link.
Ok, download and save the file to your desktop. The next part depends on your system. For vista users you have to go to your folder options and set it to show hidden files.
control panel>appearance and personalization>folder options>click show hidden files
For xp I don't recall, but it will be similar. I think they explain how to show hidden files in the install guide pinned to the top of the thread or you can do a google search.

Now, extract the file to program data>lavasoft>adaware. It will then ask you if you want to copy and replace core.aawdef. click yes-then after its done close it and start adaware.
You might have to click back and forth between the tabs before it shows it as 125.
Mine is at 125 now. Strange that it behaved this way. Makes me wonder if we were the only ones to have to do this.

Goodluck
Hope this helps.

Hi Txnnok,

I just tried your link but I can't find any place on it where I can download the 125 definition file.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Txnnok,

I have it downloaded and put it in C:\Programs\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware as you said. But still no cigar. It asked me if I wanted to replace the old file and I said 'yes' like you said, but still showing 124 in the actual program.

I have to run to a church picnic right now. I will check back in when I get home tonight.

The reason I couldn't find the file download is because I was to stupid to see I had to scroll right a little bit when I clicked on your link. Oh well, I guess that comes with age.

Thanks and regards,

There is a problem with Defs 125 - when I attempted to update I got 'your Defs.file is up-to-date' even though I had 124 - so I had to do Manual Update. For Windows XP the Defs file is probably in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware

Don't beat yourself up. I couldn't tell you how many times I've looke for something and it was right in front of my face. I think we have done it.
What's bad is when your looking for something and your holding it your hand, like car keys or I've looked for my sunglasses and their either on my head or I'm wearing them.

OK, if clicking back and forth between the setting and then going back to the status tab didn't work. Mine showed up as 124 for till I clicked back and forth. Also I can only think it was extracted to the wrong place, but then it shouldn't have asked you to copy and replace.
I'll be back on tomorrow or maybe later tonight. It should have worked. Here's a pic of what it should have looked like when you tried to extract for xp it will be similar, but the layout will like what Tobur posted.
What operating system are you using,2harts4ever?

Hi Txnnok, Tobur and Peter,

Well, believe it or not I finally got 125 manually down loaded and installed. biggrin.gif

First of all I am running Win XP Home, SP#3, with IE7 and fully patched and updated.

Come to find out after reading Tobur's and Peter's responses I was unzipping the new definition into the wrong folder. I was putting it in C:\Programs\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware instead of C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware. Once I put it in the right folder I was off to the races.

Once I had it installed I did have to switch from the 'Status' tab to the 'Scan' tab once or twice before the new defintion displayed correctly in the Status window.

This is the first update problem I have ever had with Ad-Aware in the three or four years I have been using it. It is one of those programs you take for granted until something like this happens.

Anyway, I appreciate all the guidance from you three in helping me get this 'manual' update completed.

Thanks and regards,

Hi, I too have this problem. I have tried your suggestion for manually installing with Vista, but it did not work. Any further help would be appreciated please.

Hi,

i also cannot update to the latest version 0125, Ad-Aware 2008 always shows version 0124. I am using XP Home SP3 & Norton Internet Security 2009. Up to 0124 the update works without any problems. When will this default be resolved?

Many thanks

Michael

This is just for Vista

Be sure that your not dropping the file in the wrong spot or dropping into the core file itself. You have to stop at C>program data>lavasoft>adaware.
Don't click on anything else after that point or it won't work. The copy has to pop up or something didn't work.

You can also delete the core file out of it and then extract the file in the file or you can drag then drop it in there.
If you do it this way and you see the core file like in the pic, then there is no way that 125 isn't the definition file. But if you drop it in the wrong spot, adaware will not have the main file to scan with. I'm not sure if an error will come up or not.

Also be sure that your not going into the program files folder after you click your c drive, because there is a lavasoft folder there to but it is not the right one.
So make sure Program Data not Program files it is a hidden folder.

Hope this works, goodluck

Dinole for xp follow what Pierre said. It is the same with xp, they just name the folders different ((xp)documents & settings = program data(vista)

Thanks TXNNOK. I did exactly that but it still did not work. However, I have just updated to 126 and all worked well. Must have been a glitch with 125. Many thanks for your help though.
