First, system info:
I have the FREE Adaware 2008.
WinXP Service Pack 2
Norton 2005 Internet Security - always updated - last scan was a few hours before this error occurred
I have no viruses, and I just ran Lavasoft on Sunday... Lavasoft only reported tracking type items at the last scan.
I have not downloaded anything and have not traveled to any weird or malicious sites (just been on google mail and AOL).

On install of Lavasoft a couple months(?) ago, I guess it installed teatimer (I don't remember, but I have seen teatimer listed in Processes of Task manager).

Tonight, I was on Internet Explorer. Windows popped a message (real fast, too fast to read fully) that said something about and "instability" in Windows and teatimer was mentioned in the error. It had an OK box (but I didn't even get to click it because the box popped off as fast as it popped on). Then, Windows/everything froze. I couldn't get a response for Task Manager either (waited over 20 minutes). It seemed like something got stuck. So I had to just power off. I know it's not the healthiest way to shut off but I had no choice.

Then, I waited about 5 minutes and restarted. WindowsXP popped a message that it could not load user settings and if it continued to tell the administrator (i.e. just me, it's not a network). The only option on that message was OK. After 3 of the same message, WinXP never loaded. I had to do another power off.

Waited again 5 minutes. Turned laptop back on. It finally loaded to where I can see Start and the Windows toolbar, but.... Desktop is now a white screen...And instead of my desktop items, it only has the recycle bin and windows media player (in different positions than where they were before). The programs in "My Programs" list is now re-arranged. I had myInternet Explorer 6.0 "home page" set to GoogleMail page---that is now lost.

It seems something adverse happened to my Windows UserName Documents and Settings??? (a guess)

What happened? And-- HOW do I fix it?

Should I uninstall Lavasoft? Or Tea Timer? or both? (and would that fix the problem?)

Would a computer guru kindly help me figure out what went wrong?

Thank you so much,

Lifes

Hi biggrin.gif
TeaTimer isn't an AAW process it belongs to SpyBot S&D.
Pls check your programs.
