Ran Ad-Aware 2007 fine. After upgrading to Ad-Aware 2008 have not been able to complete a scan. When clicking on "Remove" button always get System error: 1814

Because of these messages I cannot run Ad-Aware--even after removing and reinstalling it.

I am running Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4.

This started occurring about 4 months ago after I upgraded to Ad-Aware 2008. It occurs after a scan is complete (usually about 3 hours) and I click "Remove."

I am a tad confused by your reply to this question which is the exact problem I am having ever since upgrading to 2008. Does this mean we need to go back to Adaware 2007 which I uninstalled when upgrading? I can't close 2007 as it does not exist any longer on my computer. Please help me.

Hi,

Just to clarify for you, although Raziel's screenshot shows 2007, it will still apply for 2008 - just look instead for Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service

Thanks Casey, I had done as you recommend but used Lavasoft Adaware Service and it worked the first time. But I am still having this problem everytime I try to remove adware. I have started going through the services window before I run a scan hoping to avoid having to run it multiple times before I can successfully remove adware, but it still fails. Will I always have to run an unsuccessful removal after a scan before stopping and starting Adaware through services (sometimes more than 2 times) before I can remove tracking cookies? I was hoping since I send the exception report each time that a fix from Lavasoft could be in the works? Thanks for your time. Sorry it took me so long to get back but my building caught fire on last Monday and we just got electricity restored (still praying for gas and hot water to be back!) Thanks again.

Hi,

Firstly, try deleting your cookies through your browser.

Internet Explorer: Tools > Delete Browsing History > tick cookies > remove
Firefox: Tools > Clear Private data (make sure this is configured to delete cookies)

Then try scanning with ad-aware. If the program still crashes out, you may have a more serious infection. Let me know and I'll give further instructions.
