I have just re-installed XP on my machine and I have tried a number of times to install the above version. I receive a 1920 failure dialogue box. I have not been able to resolve the issue (whatever that may be) at this time. There is no old version of Adaware on this machine to remove. What do you suggest?

Thank you,

Brian

Hi Casey and thank you for your time,

As I stated, I have followed those instructions but as there is not a functioning copy version of Adaware on my system, I can not;
1. Close Ad-Aware
2. Go to Windows Start menu, choose 'Run...', type in 'Services.msc' and in the service window, stop Ad-Aware 2007 Service.
3. Open Ad-Aware to restart the service.

Any other ideas or thoughts?

Ah! yes, that would be a problem!

Are you definitely logged on as an administrator when you try to install ad-aware?

If so, could you please do the following:

Start > run > type services.msc and click enter > please find the service Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Is this service running?

I am logged in as an Administrator and RPC is showing as running.

Ok, well this means that the service should be able to install as you have the required permissions and the service it is dependant upon is running. So the only thing I can think of that may be preventing the install is something like a registry blocker - ie your anti-virus software or anti-malware.

Do you have a registry monitor running (ie AVG Resident Shield, Spybot Tea Timer etc)? If so, please disable the software and then try and install.

Good morning Casey,

On every attempt to install Adaware, I have shut down AVG Anti-Virus and AVG- Anti-Spyware. There are not other programs running in this system. In the past I have installed Adaware in the past on this computer and other systems I have had over the years with no issues. This has me wondering.

Casey,

I thought about this issue and decided to install the 2007 version. I downloaded this version, installed it, allowed it to look for updates and then to install those updates. Amazingly enough, it installed the 2008 version without any issues arising. I thank you for your assistance and hope that you pass this information along to anyone who may be experiencing the same issue that I was originally.
