To the person who wonders why people want an out of date file, it's because we still want to use Ad-Aware SE for old OS, there is nothing wrong with that. Also some of these free spyware removers are spyware. LS is a respected brand and would not do anything bad, i hope lol
And if you continue to use an anti-spyware program with definitions
over two months out of date, it is effectively useless! Every single piece of malware created since the middle of May (and there's an absolute onslaught of scumware at the moment) could now call your machine home and AAW SE wouldn't even detect it!! And also, since AAW SE is no longer supported and therefore obsolete, it isn't even equipped to deal with some of the newer malware threats you could face. That's what's wrong with that!

I did a search on google and think I have found the file but this one is SE1R246. Some have said there was problems with SE1R247 or something, so this one is best.
As casey_boy says, downloading definitions from a 3rd party site is just asking for trouble; how on Earth are you supposed to know if it's legit or something malicious?!
SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot S&D are 2 well known and respected products that still support 98 and ME (Spybot still supports win95!!). This topic was debated a while back in this very forum when the AAW SE definitions files stopped working with 98/ME, and these two products were accepted as the best alternatives for 98/ME users. All the people involved in that debate and unable to upgrade to newer Lavasoft products have now sensibly moved on. The reason I check back here is to help out people in the same quandary. I myself am still using Windows 98SE and have successfully switched to SuperAntiSpyware, which is an excellent product.

I couldn't have put it better myself.I had followed his or her advice and installed SuperAntiSpyware, but it kept locking me up halfway through a scan. I had to remove it.
I've had no problems with the product. If it's locking you up, then I'd advise you to check their FAQ section to ascertain the problem. It's a well respected and effective piece of anti-spyware software that would be of much better use to you than an outdated and no longer supported product with a definitions file almost 3 months old! Just because
you couldn't get it to work doesn't make my sound advice poor, just your judgment!!!!

This is a bit of a catch 22 situation; if you're the type pf person who believes using an anti-malware tool with obsolete definitions is safe, then you
really need an up to date product to protect you and your interests!!
