Well, I've run into similar problems myself. My expiration date is end of August this year (about in a few weeks) and I had problems since mid-end of April this year, downloading both automatically and manually. Support said to install the refs file manually but this causes problems too. Now nothing works, corrupt def file it says. They've abandonded us. And I paid for a 2 year subcription in 2006... not a lot of dough but anyway. It's real license.
The bad thing is that they (LS) DON'T provide any old files on their site, just the latest updates. I can't find SE1R247 anywhere on thir site or the net. Now everything has stopped working. If I just can use the latest def file that worked within WIN98SE and AD-WATCH I'll be a happy camper until my subscripiton time runs out.
My version is AD-AWARE SE Plus Build 1.06r1
I think, by and large that LS can't solve such trivial problems, like the others do (SAS etc). They wan't to force us going over to newer systems. Even Norton AV that runs on WIN98SE (av 7.51) has still valid updates on their site.
I think it's ok that they don't support it anymore (like Norton) but just to have the downloads and updating of def files just stop working without prior notice is something which is not good. Since WIN98SE has been static for a couple of years now (i e not updated) there shouldn't be any problems keeping it up. Otherwise, they should stop selling 2 year subscriptions, because then we don't know when that support is going to end. I can very well live with downloading manually and installing it, but even that won't work. It does very much so with Norton AV, manually installing def files.
Is it ok to PM you and ask for an April def file that worked?

Curious...
SE1R247 has worked for
"everybody else" who runs an old Win98-based OS...and is allegedly the "last" Defs Update that worked with 9x OS - file size is apparently the issue...
Which defs file do you think that you need then...?
I can offer SE1R242 (28 April 2008) through to SE1R270 (15 July 2008) via email, with a couple of exceptions:
no SE1R248, or SE1R264... Dunno what happened to them - perhaps we can set-up a Swap-Meet and then I can get the complete set...
FYI - SE1R242 = 3037 KB; SE1R247 = 3229 KB; SE1R270 = 4042 KB.
