I've been using Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06r1 for some time now with great success. Recently, however, I noticed that the program seems to be stopping during the scan. The file it locks on differs but it is ususally early in the scan process (e.g., within the first 2000-4000 objects) and is often a windws/system32/file of some sort. The latest are3 stopping points:

c:\windows\system32\OLEACC.dll at object 2973.
c:\programfiles\america online 9.0\sa.dll at object 3371
c:\windows\system32\pngfilt.dll at object 3299

Interestingly, I can still cancel and stop the scan but even when I start again it gets stuck again.

I am running WinXP SP2 with plenty of memory and disc space. The only recent changes made from a program standpoint are: (a) AOL downloaded it's updated check-up program 4.0.40.4 and ( Spysweeper also recently updated itself. Any suggestions would be helpful. thanks!

Problem is with Spy Sweeper - turn it off and scan will be successful.

Many compaints in here for the past week.

I have a 'ticket' from Webroot - no answer yet.

Thank you for the link, and THANK YOU for solving my problem. I'm beginning to wonder if Spysweeper is causing any other weird problems, like "molasses slow" surfing. Or if there is something else going on with my machine. Thanks again.
