Full Version: New PC - Am trying new Lavasoft Firewall

Zia Park
Just got a new computer. Just as I got my old one working perfectly, things started to wear out. New pc has Vista Home Premium (ugh), I'm trying the upgraded Lavasoft Firewall (love the old one), but I cannot get AOL to work with both Lavasoft Firewall and Norton Internet Security. Old computer ran perfectly with Lavasoft Firewall and Webroot Spysweeper w/Antivirus. They've changed too their program too--added a firewall that drives me nuts, so I don't have it running . :-(

Keep getting BLUE SCREEN ERROR and computer keeps shutting down and rebooting. AOL related, I believe, but they are no help. Posting error message and HJT log below. I'm about to take this computer back, because it has an Nvidia LAN and I've also read that it has compatibility issues with Vista. Wish I could load Win XP!!!!

ERROR MESSAGE after forced shut down:

Hello Zia,

I moved this post to a more appropriate area. That's why you haven't gotten any replies (it was in the Malware removal forums and you havne't any malware running).

The forums here are for user to user assistance and not many questions come up in here on the Lavasoft Personal Firewall because you have a much better solution for technical problems when you use the Support Center.
http://lavasoft.com/support/supportcenter/

There you can log in and get technical help from our Support Staff directly via email.

Your HijackThis log doesn't show any active infections hiding so that's not the problem.

One thing you should be sure of is that you should only have one firewall installed and running. If you are using more than one, you should uninstall the others. Because Vista comes preinstalled with the Windows Firewall you should have it disabled via the Security Center before installing the Lavasoft Personal Firewall.

If still no joy, do try contacting the Support Center experts who can help you with your firewall questions and problems. smile.gif

Hi Zia,

I just got a new Vista computer and love it... mostly. There is a bit of a learning curve with the new OS, but otherwise, I'm OK. I am having a little problem (see my post from a few days ago), but nothing like you are having. My system is 64 bit Home Premium, in case that makes a difference.

Here's what I have done. I first downloaded AVG Free anti virus from Grisoft. Their products have always served me very well with XP and it seems to be working fine on Vista. As soon as I had that on my computer, I disabled Norton (which came with the computer). After a little searching, I decided to download and install Personal Firewall 3 and, of course, I disabled the Windows firewall. Everything seems OK with that combo... maybe worth a try?

For what it's worth, I paid for McAfee for years and nothing but trouble. I had Norton for a while too and there were enough issues to abandon it before paying. Since I switched to AVG, I have had much more joy!
