I have been using the older SE version for years, with no problems. I downloaded this new verson on 6/7/08, turned off my Zone Alarm, uninstalled SE and installed the 2008 Free version (7.1.0.10. I ran updates successfully.
However, EVERY time I run it, it blows up immediately with this unhandled exception:
An unhandled exception occured at 0x7C5CA000 in aawservice.exe
Exception Code : 0xc0000005
Client version : 0.853
Attached Debugger : 0
(Full listing attached)
I have sent about 5 of these to Lavasoft over the past few weeks with absolutely NO response. I searched through this forum, tried the suggestions for other problems:
... stopping and restarting the service
... running with Zone Alarm turned off (all Ad-Aware items are set to the highest trust level in ZA)
... downloaded another version from a different web site (in casde of corruption
but it ALWAYS blows up.
I run on Win2k, SP4, build 2195.
To me, an unhandled exception means the code ran into something that the rogrammers did NOT have a Try/Catch block around to handle. I hate being off in unchartered waters!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Nelson G
Pls have a look to the 'TechSpecs'. AAW2008 won't run on W2K only W2K pro.

Raziel,
Two things -
1) I AM runnng Win2kPRO (as my boot-up screen confirms).
2) I have not spoken with anyone who ever heard of a "plain" Win2k, only PRO and Server.
So, based on ths, I guess you are telling me that AdAware does NOT really work on Win2k Pro.

I'm not positive, but I don't think you can go from se to 2008 without deleting the se files. I've never owned a 2k, so I don't know were they are all located. The registry shouldn't matter, but the files for 2008 can get mixed up with se files. Occasionally, I have seen this happen with 2007 to 2008.
You can try using an uninstaller if you want. I recently had to do this myself after a program interfered with a 2008 update and I couldn't get to function properly no matter how many uninstall and installs I tried. Unfortunately, I can't refer any, but c/net or pc world should have some listing of some.
To answer you question, yes 2008 works with 2kpro and for servers its only 2003 and up.
Hope this helps
Almost forgot, you could have compatibility problem with another program. After you try the above, let us know what happens and we'll go from there.

I'm having a similar problem as Nelson G...
Same AdAware Version, 2008 Free 7.1.0.10
Different operating system" Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Slightly different error message:
An unhandled exception occured at 0x1007627A in aawservice.exe
Exception Code : 0xc0000005
Client version : 0.853
Attached Debugger : 0
Forum searches showed possible solutions referring to the plus or pro versions which didn't help me much. Txnnok mentioned "you could have compatibility problem with another program..." I recently installed Spybot Search & Destroy which warned me that AdAware might give a false positive about some of its contents but didn't warn about anything like this. Could it be the problem?
