Dear,

Does Ad-Aware automatically cancel a scan when there isn't enough free memory? I asked that because I immediately saw a logfile that states 14 % off free memory only after 5 mins of scan time. I only have 512 MB internal memory. I will now retry a new full scan.

Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
Niels

EDIT: Sorry I mistyped in the topic can please some of the moderators change it to : too low memory.

Hello Nielsvds biggrin.gif
pls open your task-manager and have a look to the K-usage .
Tell us, is it increased ? and if so - what's the highest value.

Dear Raziel,

Thanks for your prompt reply.
At that moment svchost.exe was using lots of cpu and memory (both internal and virtual memory). I could see that automatic updates was the cause off it. So far now the full scan works correctly.

I personally think that Ad-Aware 2008 need some amount off free memory to operate. I wanted to know if that is the case.
Can you answer that or do you know who can answer that?

Kind regards,
Niels

Oh yes
K-usage of aawservice.exe increases from K 1456 to 140.000 - 190.000 max.
On some machines it goes up to 500.000..
Pls check it and 'play' a little bit with the settings.

Dear Raziel,

I already have enabled run scan as a background process. Is it safe to uncheck deep archive scan? Because everytime when Ad-Aware is scanning an archive the memory usage of aawservice.exe goes to 400 MB and each time I receive the message from windows that there isn't enough free virtual memory. I let windows manage it.

To my opinion the system requirements are too low more specificly for the minimum amount of memory. If look most off the high memory usage are people who have less than 1 GB off ram.

Kind regards,
Niels

Hi Niels biggrin.gif
just try to run an archive scan only, if aaw hang-up again - set the file-skip to 50.000/30.000.
If you are an user with a 'normal' surf behaviour, a deep scan 1 x week should be enough.
A nive weekend

Dear Raziel,

Ok thanks I will enable the option Skip files larger than “X” kb. If I am not wrong it's safe to uncheck deep archive scan because if I don't extract the archive nothing can spread.

Have also a nice week-end

Kind regards,
Niels
