When my version of Ad-Aware 2008 goes through the supposed cookie search, it now catches nothing, whereas before it was fine, and picked up all cookies. I don't like them and want them removed. What happened to my Ad-aware?

Hi,
Ad-Aware should remove cookies.
So I'd like you to check your settings, please go to:
Ad-Aware > Settings > Scanning > then ensure that 'scan for tracking cookies' is ticked and that 'ignore items with TAI less than' is set at 3.
Also ensure that your browsers are not open during the scan.
Hope that works, post back and let us know,
Casey

Thank you so much for answering my post. I did as you asked and, yes, my settings are set to scan for tracking cookies, and TAI less than 3. so the system settings are OK. I don't know what else it could be. Thanks again.

No problem,
Right firstly what internet browser are you using?
Was it closed during the scan?

One thing I notice is this: Once, my Ad-aware 2008 lingered for a few seconds over the word "cookies." When it did this in the past, it always picked up cookies. Now, it just flashes the word "cookies" for a very brief time, less than a second, and during this very brief time it picks up no new cookies.

Hello danielthree,
So far as I know Ad-Aware only search for cookies that send information to providers off advertisements or cookies that store your surfing habits to send it to marketing firms and not for harmless cookies that store for example your language, password to log in a website. I have other cookies and these weren't reported by Ad-Aware. Or you must have enabled the option in Firefox that each time you close Firefox all temporary files are being erased (including cookies)
Kind regards,
Niels

Hi Nielsvds,
Yes you are correct at the default settings (already described) ad-aware will only scan for tracking cookies.
danielthree, what neilsvds is saying is correct, firefox maybe deleting the cookies for you every time you close the browser.
hope that helps,
Casey

Thanks a lot, Casey....I didn't know that Firefox will delete tracking cookies, but if it does, so much the better. Are you absolutely sure that Firefox is doing this, it's definitely not ad-Aware missing the tracking cookies? Thanks again.

Hello danielthree,
Are you using software for removing temporary, log, bak files? Such as ccleaner if so that could be the reason also these tools deletes also cookies. Also when Firefox 3.0 crashes all you temporary files will be erased see
here.Did you have checked Always clear my private data when I close Firefox in Firefox?
Kind regards,
Niels

If you set up firefox to have these settings then you wont get 3rd party cookies which are usually tracking cookies, it's a nice feature (easier to configure than IE). Also any private data can be removed when FF3 closes, you can configure what you want deleted by clicking settings next to the box.
Particularly look at the one's in the red boxes.

Thank you so much. Following your advice, I set my Firefox 3 privacy controls not to accept 3rd party cookies. As your nice screenshot shows, This is a good feature, and I hope it allows me to control the amount of tracking cookies put on my machine. But, before I did this, I'm still not sure if Ad-Aware 2008 is picking up cookies anyway.

Hello danielthree,
I don't want to be rude. But why did you ignored my posts? I almost said the exact same thing that casey_boy said.
