I installed Ad-aware 2008 last night. I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition, SP3, and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008. I cleanly uninstalled Ad-aware 2007 from my computer, checked to make sure no traces of 2007 remained, and then installed 2008 free. It would scan approximately 3000 items and then freeze while scanning registry. I uninstalled and tried again. Same problem. It will run a smart scan, but not a full scan. I even put it on Full scan and left it on all night. It was still in exactly the same place 6 hours later. Please Help!!!!!!

Was Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 disabled during the scans? If not, then please do this (you might feel safer disconnecting from the internet whilst doing this).

Do you know exactly where it gets stuck (freeze while scanning registry isn't that helpful lol)? Is it the same part of the registry every time?

Each time it got stuck someplace different but always scanning in registry. No, I didn't disable Trend Micro, and my computer is always connected to the internet.

Well could you try and disable it (specifically any resident shield type part of it)?

Then run a scan and see if it will complete.

I disabled Trend Micro and tried to scan, same thing happened. I did take a picture this time for you to see. This is the same area it always freezes. Kim

Running a web update might help.


Close the Ad Aware application window.
Go to Start> All Programs> Lavasoft> Ad Aware> Software Update

Let the update run and finish. Now open Ad Aware 2008 and run a scan.

I did that and it still freezes.

I have the very same problem. Smart scam works but full scan freezes .I have downloaded all the updates and it still freezes. I do use norton antivirus.
