The AdWatch Taskbar Icon is blinking for effectively no reason... unsure.gif

Just opening IE7 starts it "blinking" - but I get NO reasons why. No RegShield pop-ups, it's not stopping a cookie (OK- just the one at 1439hrs today), or anything - I've attached my settings including my log of today.

With these settings, just opening IE7 or opening a fresh tab in IE7 gets it "blinking" - but for WHAT reason...?
I'm guessing it's because I've got everything in "Trusted Programs" set to "Ask" - but shouldn't I therefore actually be asked...? rolleyes.gif

Latest LS downloads installed this morning Defs. #0091 plus associated AV updates. This problem started last night after downloading and installing the latest Microsoft updates.

Yup, I KNOW that...!

But WHAT is it notifying me of....?

No cookies. No RegisterShield Monitor activity. No advisory "pop-ups"...! See the FOURTH screen shot...!

Just blinking "blinking"...

A reboot has cured it since then, so something in AAW 2008 had got stuck in a loop.

No other problems with other programs and/or taskbar icons at that point.

I shall report again if the problem re-appears.

Refer back to your third screen shot. You can convert all the question marks to either allowed or block by clicking on them.

Thanks Pierre,

I do normally "Green Tick" (allow) a couple of programs...see today's (15 June) settings:

BUT - after the latest batch of Microsoft updates (usually monthly), I have now ended-up with TWO versions of iexplore.exe, and at the time of the previous (12 June) screenshot, I wanted to ensure that I allowed only the relevant one. At the risk of going slightly off-topic, we've raised this issue of not being able to remove entries from this Trusted Programs list, in another thread. However, perhaps if two versions of the same program / .exe are listed as "ask" (as per this example), then maybe this can contribute to this errant "blinking icon" phenomena...? unsure.gif

Bottom line: I had all entries as "ask" for the reasons stated above. The AdWatch icon was flashing, indicating an event was taking / had taken place. However, no event was actually listed in the log, and no pop-up (if relevant) appeared advising me of the nature of the event.

I'm 99.99% sure that these events were iexplore.exe-related, as the errant icon activity occurred when I opened a new tab in IE7 or even just opened IE7. Assuming that I'm correct, I should have seen both a RegShield Pop-Up, and also an entry in the RegShield section of the Event Log, neither of which happened.

As I said, a PC reboot cured whatever loop or conflict that was occurring at the time, in AdAware. Now I get a log entry in the AdWatch Status Event Log (as I should), and a RegShield pop-up if relevant (as I should).

If this happens again, I'll re-post about it - and I won't re-boot the PC...perhaps these is a run-time log that can be accessed to find the cause...?

I am going to read the help file first. If that does clarify it for me I'll fire a question off to support. I will keep you posted. I did notice after the last M$ updates I allowed IE again as there had been an update to it.

I think it all interlinks somehow.

Massive agreement from Chez Moi

I'm not a PC Guru - but I am a Logic Expert. I work with PLC programs day-in and day-out, keeping Robots etc running sweet-and-fast.

And in THAT capacity, if a program is addressing one coil more than once (in THIS instance - one .exe TWICE), then that's usually where the problem lies... unsure.gif

As the joke goes: "There are 10 types of people in the world....those that understand Binary, and those that don't"... wink.gif

Thanks for your input BTW, Pierre.

Let this thread drop to the bottom of the pool. If the problem re-appears in the next 30-days, I'll resurrect it.
