I have tried twice to run Ad-Aware 2008. Both times when trying to delete tracking cookies, I get an error message and then the program is shut down. I took a screen shot of the error message:

This is running on XP Pro w/SP2.
Is this a common error? What do I do?

Hi Smoking Man,
Not sure what's going on here, I haven't seen this happen before. There could be a problem with your install. You could try un-installing the program and then downloading and re-installing it, that might solve your problem.
Just be sure to un-install all traces of AdAware 2008 (and 2007, if you used it, this is very important!) before you re-install 2008.
You could also try posting your log file here, someone may be able to give you more information than I can, but I think a fresh install might solve your problem .
Let us know if that helps. smile.gif

Smoking Man,
After doing some checking around it seems that a few other users are experiencing similar problems with
AdAware freezing during scans. From what I understand, the problem, at least in some of these cases, is a
conflict between AdAware and the firewall.
I think zone alarm is the one that people have reportedly had problems with, but there could be conflicts with others as well, I will look into it for you.
If you could let me know what firewall you are running I will try to find out more about this issue so we can determine if this is what is causing your problems. smile.gif

Hi SmokingMan biggrin.gif
could be an infection.
Pls download and install 'HijackThis' from TrendMicro's.
Run a scan and copy/paste the logfile in your NEW !! post.
The appropriate forum is...

sorry for intervention wub.gif

I'll try running this with my firewall down first. I do use Zone Alarm firewall and AV. I'll let you know what happens. If I still have the problem I'll post the log file if I can. I get the error after the scan is finished and while I'm trying to remove the tracking cookies.

I didn't have Ad-Aware 2007 installed before, I used Ad-Aware SE, which was uninstalled.

Good plan Smoking Man cool.gif
Disable your firewall, try running a scan and then post your log file, no matter what the results are.
That way we can get a better idea of what's going on.
Be sure to allow AdAware to update itself before you scan, there has been a new update that seems to
have solved the freezing issue for some people... here's hoping it will work for you too smile.gif

Smoking Man,
See the last few posts in this thread;

It seems that today's update has indeed solved the firewall compatability problem. Please
let us know how things work for you after you have done a web update. If it is still a
no go and you have tried an uninstall/ re-install then you should do as Raziel suggested and
post your hijackthis log in the appropriate forum smile.gif
