Hello, I had used ad-aware personal for some years and found it to be very useful with no complaints. When the time came for it's time to end I tried to remove it from my system but found that when I tried this that the error "couldn't open INSTALL.LOG file" would apear. Any ideas on how to remove this as I would like to install the latest version of ad-aware 2008 on my system.

Thanks in advance

Corvus.

Try the steps listed in this FAQ for SE:
I Am Unable To Uninstall My Ad-aware Program. I Get The Message "can't Find Install.log"

Hi all, I have tried to install the new ad aware version but to no avail. "Error 1722 there is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." pops up. This may have something to do with I still have the Ad-aware personal SE on my system, please see this post;

cant uninstall ad-aware personal SE

Thanks in advance,

Corvus.

I merged these into one topic as you DO need to remove Ad-Aware SE first. Scroll up to see my reply earlier. Try those steps first please and let us know if you are able to uninstall SE?

Hi, thanks C.Jane for your quick reply.
All programs; I have No folder in my start menu re:lavasoft.
Add/remove programs; When I run add/remove programs it displays the carnt open "INSTALL.LOG" error.
I searched & found the unwise.exe "C:\program files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE personal" 161kb in size but again gives the error cant open INSTALL.LOG

Manual uninstall; I navigated to (C:\program files\lavasoft\ad-aware \ but theres is no unregaaw.exe file there (but is the INSTALL.LOG) I assume that the unregaaw.exe removes the registry setup for Ad-aware personal SE, is it possible to be Emailed the "unregaaw.exe" file or given a list of the registy files so I can manualy delete them? As I couldn't follow step 2 in the manual uninstall I halted there.

Thanks for your help thus far.

Pls run a windows search for unregaaw.exe ( 'exe'could be hidden ) in the meantime.
Let us know if you found it.

Hi again biggrin.gif
lets try to clean...
> create a system restore point
> locate the LS SE folder
> delete the entire SE folder
> delete the SE link in your Start menu ( if there )
> delete the icon from your desktop ( if there )
> navigate to Documents and Settings\All Users ( or User Name )\Application Data\Lavasoft and delete the LS folder
> Start/Run -- type 'cleanmgr' -- checkmark Temporary Files/Temporary Internet Files/Recycle Bin and run
> Reboot
> start a windows search for SE leavings and delete them (if there)
Let us know how it works.
Cheerio

Thanks Raziel, this worked for me.

Just one additional thing I had to do:

Go to Add Remove Programs, Select SE - it is still there- click remove and allow it to be removed from the list. - may be a good idea to run defrag also.
