Admin,

I am a Windows ME user, and I too, have been getting the corrupt error messages, for a couple of weeks now. (the last 2 manual updates)

Error while loading the Ad-Aware definitions file.

Warning! Definitions file not found or corrupted!

I know Lavasoft has made the decision, to discontinue the Ad-Aware SE product. But many of us, have been using your companies product, for a very long time. We have enjoyed, the free service, that your company has actually given us. And it is very hard, for some of us to change, because we have been so happy, with your companies service.

I also understand, that we no longer have any choice in the matter, and we must now, switch over to another different product. (because of the older OS, that we all have)

But I think it would be a nice gesture (on Lavasoft's part), if you could provide us 1 or 2 more (uncorrupted) manual updates, until we can all decide, which other anti-spyware program, we are going to switch over to.

You could post a sticky thread, in this Lavasoft Support Forum, stating, that this will be the very last, 1 or 2 manual updates (for Ad-Aware SE), that Lavasoft will be offering.

That way, no one will have anything to complain about, and you won't have to offer, the Ad-Aware SE manual update, on the Lavasoft Blog anymore.

This will be the official end of the story, and Lavasoft (in my opinion), will have handled, this matter in the correct and proper way.

(instead of purposely offering, corrupted manual updates, to discourage and pursuade, existing Ad-Aware SE users, to switch over to another, different anti-spyware program)

Ad-Aware 2008 is still free. There are also paid versions as well. I will see what LS CalamityJane wants to do about the Thread.

Ad-Aware 2008, doesn't work with older, Windows 98, or Windows ME operating systems.

If you had read the other similar type threads (in this forum first), you would have realized, that is the reason why, we (Ad-Aware SE users) are all upset, about the corrupt manual updates, that we have been getting lately. (the last 2 times)

That statement is incorrect and a wrong assumption on your part.

We can confirm the update file is not corrupted but for some reason it is not able to load recently on older systems. We suspect the increasing file size as possibly what causes it but cannot confirm at this point. SE is way beyond it's life expectancy. I do not know if there will be any solution or bug fix to the program for manual updates of SE on older systems.

SE users win2k and up are encouraged to update to the Ad-Aware 2008 version at this point. Program Bug fixes are in the 2008 version only for now.

Unsupported SE expired Dec 31, 2007. Please see the sticky at the top of this forum.

I'm closing this thread now.
